Just getting into RPGs. Which one is more enjoyable, Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger is better, but Secret Of Mana is fun with friends.

Final Fantasy VI is better than both of them

Mana is more Zelda-like in terms of combat mechanics if thats your thing.

But Chrono Trigger is a far better game in every single aspect.

Chrono Trigger. The only good thing about Secret of Mana is the music.

Chrono Trigger is literally a beginner's RPG. It's an easy, relatively short game (18-20 hours) which has all the trappings of a regular RPG condensed into a shorter package for those looking to get into the genre. It's the perfect JRPG to start on.

I used to enjoy it.
But then I played through Final Fantasy Adventure, and trying to go back to Secret is just painful by comparison.

Chrono Trigger.

Secret of Mana is a pain to play without co-op. I've tried starting it at least four times over the years and it's boring and stale and grindy without friends.

SoM is a good game, 7-7.5/10 tier while CT is an all time classic that will always be remembered as being at the absolute frontier of all RPGs. SoM is an action RPG, if that's more your style

much as I love Secret of Mana, it is seriously flawed. the animation is terrible, the combat is wonky, and the UI sucks balls. well... maybe not that badly, but its really hard to find anything on those menu wheels.

it is a fun game! the art design, music, and general atmosphere is cute and fun. it is an action RPG, which brings the standard pros and cons.

as a pure RPG, i would recommend Chrono Trigger. it is the perfect 16bit JRPG, hands down. Either that, or Final Fantasy VI. it really depends on whether you like your games lighter or darker.

Chrono Trigger is an excellent RPG and is extremely beginner friendly. It's a great first game.

Mana WAS a great game for the time, and is still my all time favourite, but it is definitely a 'had to be there' kind of game. I understand people that didn't play it when it was released may hate it.

Rise of the sinstrals is a fucking huge, epic rpg. Not many people I've talked to have even finished it. Lots of level grinding and some fucking hectic puzzles you may need to sleep on to figure out. It really is an underappreciated gem come to think of it. Also has a nice casino and the Ancient Cave game is GOAT.
