I think that property is what makes all of the Metroid 2 soundtrack so good. It really creates a frustrating and hopeless atmosphere on top of a cavernous and alien one. I unironically love the whole soundtrack.

At worst it gets a little annoying if you're lost in the temple part of Mystic Ruins (not the music's fault). Otherwise I've always really liked this field theme, though not as much as the alternate Egg Carrier track. They're all memorable and well-arranged, can't complain.

That's the thing. You will hear it every time before you play, over and over. And you know, some people dedicate their life to this game. They play dozens of matches every day. 1 match = listen. Imagine this for a second.

The tune itself is repetitive, barely fits a fighting game, and has one cheesy lyric that burns into your mind from 1 minute of listening—never mind countless hours of it. It's kinda similar in vein to Sonic R. Only imagine Sonic R where every tune is a 5 second loop. Oh, and also it's a fighting game where muscular superheroes duke it out with lasers and stuff. See the problem yet?

I can't name any fighting game from the top of my mind that had anything similarly annoying. SFII—the classic rock riff. SFIII—nice rap to fit the mood. SFA3—tecnho/dance beats to get you pumped. I'm not even taking KoF, Tekken, etc, they never had problems with it. Even Killer Instinct or MK got it right.

SoR3 music is great if you've heard techno of the era and figured out that's the style it's going for. DJs were pumping out wild noisy stuff like this which is fine for a game about busting heads. And the first track is a weird atmospheric part where you're kicking ninjas on a dimly lit abandoned underground railroad - it suits the loneliness, and it's not like you're there long. One of the strangely non-tense parts of the game.
