The neo-geo.com fanbase is the most cancerous and autistic gaming community there is. They inflated the price of the games so much that the market was flooded with bootlegs. This is probably the worst console to collect for.

I have one. I got a pretty good deal for it some time ago. Really good hardware for its time (It was arcade hardware after all) but it's waaaaay too expensive for what it is. I loved the Metal Slug games as a kid, and when I saw those prices, wanting to get a copy for my AVS, and the bootlegs I couldn't believe it. Also, most Neo collectors are absolute cancer.

It's so worth it. The home console is kinda shit. The arcade cabinets are fucking-A rad if you get one of these, and very easy to maintain, hardware-wise.

one of my buddies used to collect AES
but he hit hard times and sold a bunch of it to pay the bills (although I think he still has an AES unit)
he got a CMVS and other than sentimental value (he's been involved with Neo collecting for years, back when SNK was still making games for it), he doesn't regret it since he can play the same games just as well with the cheaper arcade carts

there's no reason to collect AES these days
MVS game prices are mostly quite reasonable by arcade game standards, and MVS systems aren't too ridiculously pricey overall.
