What MIDI instrument was that famous "metal bowl clank" sound heard in Goldeneye?

I always thought of it as a toilet lid falling down in a large room that echoes

Probably a gong.
Although, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Goldeneye used actual MIDI, but rather it used sequenced music and sample based soundfonts, which is similar to MIDI, but not really.

I wasnt quite sure if it was true midi or not. I'm wondering if anyone ever got the soundfont extracted. I'd love to play around with new themes using n64 instruments

There's a whole tool for extracting N64 songs to midi.

Thats cool but thats not what I'm asking. I want the soundfont file so I can sequence it to my keyboard and record music using the N64 instruments. If I wanted to hear game soundtracks I have miniUSF plugin already for winamp which plays ripped n64 music files
OP, If i'm remembering right, in the Game Grumps episode with Grant Kirkhope, he answers your exact question, so go check that out.

arachno soundfont has this sound. it also comes with a few Goldeneye samples.
>>3800456
I downloaded the sf and didnt hear it anywhere in the banks. The documentation for the soundfont also never metions goldeneye as a source for samples.
Which sounds are they?
As >>3800453 said, Grant Kirkhope reveals exactly what he used in that video. Apparently what you want to look for a synth called E-mu Proteus FX, and the sound within is called "Infinity"

Didn't that Grant Kirkhope episode ofgame grumpshave him say exactly what he used to get that sound?
>>3800363
>if anyone ever got the soundfont extracted
that's not how it works. there is no soundfont to extract. jesus fucking christ
