Any way to use these on a normal nes/toploader/av famicom?
Inb4 stupid question
>>3796162
Modding I'd guess, the Famicoms controllers are deteachable from the inside of the console, maybe someone made a connector that allows it to be inserted on anything that uses the NES controller port
Well you could splice real ones into NES controller extension cables but Hudson and Sansui both made knock off Famicom controllers that also got imported with NES plugs on them. These used to be $3 junk controllers just like 3 years ago but now thanks to people like you they seem to all be listed at $40.

I'm just wondering if the wires on the second controller will match up. There's a mic in the second controller...?
>>3796214
Then you'll want this. Hopefully the color coding will be accurate, at least on the controller side. You can test the plug side using a multimeter.
>>3796219
Best thing to do would be to rewire the mic to a barrel connector and use it as a headphone jack the way the Sansui ones do it.
>>3796221
>Hopefully the color coding will be accurate
Wew lad that made my sphincter tighten. I'll save this and compare it to other schematics, if they exist. Thanks for the tip
>>3796224
So you would listen to the mic through the headphones. This is not a bad idea at all...then again I wonder if just hard-wiring the mic to headphones would achieve the same goal
This is more of a side tangent, but it seems like /vr/ tends to respond more positively to the DIY-ers. I appreciate that.
>>3796219
Neither controller port on the NES is wired for a mic. You can re-enable mic support with a little bit of work. Check the P5 connections on the famicom schematic. Wire it up and off you go.
>>3797271
Also if you want to make the cable longer on a famicom controller you need to do a mod. Put 2 3.6k ohm resistors as pictured.
>>3797278
>RED wire is yellow
So much for color accuracy but it's nice they're clearly labeled in English there on the pcb. Also what an interesting mod - shorting those lines out a bit to up what? The amperage? I wish I was better at math.
>>3797315
It adds some voltage to the data lines I believe. NES controllers already have those resistors in place.
>>3797271
This is another viable option for the mic situation. Thanks.
>>3797278
Hm...colour me ignorant by why is this mod necessary? According to this thread:
nintendoage. (remove this space) com/forum/messageview. (and this one) cfm?catid=22&threadid=121174
the internals of a NES and a Famicom controller are ostensibly the same. I was just going to swap it over, or splice the wires with an extension cable
>>3797334
>already have those resistors in place
>>3797334
Aren't resistors used to reduce current flow?
>>3797346
I don't see any resistors in place. The resistors were drawn in where they need to go in the picture I posted.
>>3797343
Voltage drop over the cable distance. NES and famicom AV controllers already have this "mod." If you don't want to make the cable longer you can patch it right in and it will work fine. See this thread. Its where I grabbed the pic from.

The resistors are from VCC to the other two. They are dropping the voltage from VCC source to an acceptable level to boost the signal.
>>3797361
That is a NES controller. It does not have this mod.
This is the inside of the redesigned dogbone controller, which shipped with both the av famicom and the nes toploader. It also does not have these resistors.

I think this is an issue exclusive to the twin famicom
>>3797379
Other side of the board.
>>3797385
Every NES controller diagram I find shows the 2 3.6k ohm resistors. They are not present on the famicom. Go ahead and try without them.
>>3797396
I don't have a twin to try it on.
Just tried with a famicom controller: hacked off the end of an extension cable and spliced it. Works fine.
>>3797393
Ok. Nes board
>>3797334
It's possible OP is just keeping the wire short. That's probably why it works for him
>>3797407
Yeah, I just pulled apart my own too. Looks the same, tested resistance between the pins, no hidden resistor. But I've seen NES controllers that have them too. ymmv
>>3797429
must have shown up in a later board revision?

>>3797429
I was curious about this as well. Checked my nes controller and a dogbone I had laying around, no resistor. Tested them both with extension cords on my av fc, worked the same.
I don't think you'll need the mod OP
>>3797396
>Every nes controller diagram I find
Those schematics are obviously wrong, or you're reading them incorrectly. This problem may occur on a twin but it does not occur on my stock av famicom, toaster, or even my nes toploader. With extension cables my famicom controller works fine.
>>3797908
Reading them wrong. Wow, if you can't read them yourself you really don't have anything useful to add.
