A challenger appears
>>
>>3793286
I can't get into wizardry with its samurai and ninjas. I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to my D&D-style settings.
>>
>>3792094
What is it?
>>
>>3791354
I'm not sure I understand what you mean.
>>
>>3794434
D&D has samurai and katanas though???
>>
>>3794479
Some D&D settings have them as rare and exotic things.
I wouldn't be surprised if modern versions of the game had them as a general thing because of popularity, but in the most traditional eras they aren't represented in the core rules.

They're all over the place in wizardry. Heyo, not for me. That's fine.
>>
Dungeon Hack.
>>
Right.

Bard's Tale
Waxworks
and another one. I dunno. Ishar?
Pool of Radiance?
No idea.
>>
can't wait until dungeon master 2 is supported in scummvm
>>
>>3794524
D&D has had Monks and shit as long as it's had Clerics.
>>
>>3794435
a game that is fun but only with friend with an impossible setup.
>>
>>3794841
Oh shit you're right. D&D had monks early as 1977, three years after its inception. Well, shit, I guess I love samurai, ninjas, katanas, Japanese history, anime, and stuff then.

I can't believe I loved all that stuff all along and didn't even know it. I am going to play through all of Wizardry now, I love that series all of a sudden becasue D&D had monks in 1977.

If D&D had monks in 1977, anyone who says they aren't into Japanese culture is actually full weeaboo and dose not even know it.
>>
>>3794927
>I am going to play through all of Wizardry now
Shaman are mikos.
>>
>>3794930
Is it 3 or 4 that is really tough and requires intimate knowledge of the previous games to complete?
>>
>>3794939
Neither, 4 is just fake difficulty and was designed as such as a "fuck you". Wizardry isn't a difficult series, it just has a rough start and the odd speedbump.

But 4 is the bastard hard one that beats you senseless whenever it wants.
>>
>>3794939
5 is the worst one because you have to find secret doors with a special search for secret doors command in the middle of dark zones.
>>
>>3794965
People will defend this because it's "hardcore".
>>
Ultima Underworld 1-2
>>
What is a 'three'-dungeon crawler?
>>
>>3794434
I liked having the ridiculous amount of different classes and races to chose from (if my poor memory serves, VI was a bit less ridiculous with classes and still really fun). Also, the races didn't just have a few skill points difference, some had special abilities that were interesting. I always liked the acid spitting lizard dudes. They were pretty unforgiving games though, I tried to go back and play VI again but I just don't have the patience or time to waste on that style of game.

loved me some eye of the beholder 2

tried the first one recently and the loot haul was outrageous, I guess they weren't expecting to make a sequel with parties porting over?
>>
>>3794841
Monks as in Shao Lin monks or like Trappist Monks?

Monks aren't only an Eastern thing
>>
>>3796528
Shaolin flavour. Interestingly, in basic D&D the class was called Mystic and was a little looser in theme but still exotic folk from elsewhere peddling wisdom and being able to kill monsters barehanded.

system shock 1.jpg

Does System Shock count? It's not set in literal dungeon, but the game is obviously a dungeon game set in space station.
>>
>>3797001
I don't think it counts. Its a fine game, but I don't think its a dungeon crawler.

Soul Hackers is still the best SMT game there's been.
>>
>>3794927
>Ninja need theif stats
Don't make sense. Real nippon niinjas were more like civil servants who worn plain clothes or japanese james bond.
>>
>>3794524
That's because D&D is really just a basic rules set to build upon and was based mostly on just Europe so they didn't add much eastern stuff until expansions. Wizardry is a full game in it's own world.
>>
>>3794927
Epic sarcasm XD
>>
>>3797003
>>3797001
and yet, it's literally Ultima Underworld in space.
>>
>>3798383
I'd have to take another look at it.
I just fear if it counts then we'll see people campaigning that stuff like Deus Ex is a dungeon crawler because 'muh rpg elements' and 'the levels are just like dungeons'.

Much further than that and Doom will be a dungeon crawler. Still, a case might be made for system shock.
>>
I liked might & magic 2. So it gets my vote
>>
>>3797248
I absolutely love SH, but some of those dungeons are like the most grueling and not fun in the series,
>>
>>3796512
Those names are fucking amazing
>>
>>3798553
>Much further than that and Doom will be a dungeon crawler.
Doom RPG + Level generator. If someone was able to make a Doom wad that generated levels on the fly it would be a true FPS roguelike
>>
>>3799682
Oblige exists, although everything it generates is simplistic as hell
