My N64 has a horrible problem where it will randomly reset in the midst of gameplay. Sometimes, it will only last a minute or two before it aggressively resets several times in a row.

I received this particular N64 for Christmas 20 years ago. It was the first game console I ever owned, and I would like to do whatever I can to save it before I consider replacing it with another one.

Can /vr/ help me save it?

I had that problem about a year ago, just unscrew it with a gamebit, and clean the N64 itself by using the credit card method or just use a Q tip with some window cleaner on the cartridge slot. Wait for it to dry before testing it.

Wrap a dollar bill around a credit card and then push that in and out of the cart connector to clean the contacts.
Re-seat the jumper or expansion pak.

If that doesn't help, check the on/off and reset switches for faults.

You can also try changing the power supply.

I have already tried cleaning out the cart slot and swapping out the AC adapter. How do I check the switches for faults?

Use a multimeter and put a lead on each of the switches pins, then jiggle the switch.

How does it 'aggressively' reset?
Is it verbally aggressive or physically?
Does it admit it has a problem?

Sounds like it's more passive aggressive. I think it's pissed off OP received it when he was -3 years old.
