DXX-Rebirth is a rather faithful port and it just works (tm), but D3 is all kinds of annoying to set up. Especially since it tends to resize and shuffle all desktop windows into a tiny little pile in the corner of your screen whenever it goes through a resolution change.

D3 really fucked up by making the bots too good at dodging. It's not that much of an issue when you get guns with faster projectiles, but holy hell the first two levels are just an exercise in frustration on higher difficulties.

Also I refuse to speak of level 13, I still get nightmares about that monstrosity.

You need the data files from the registered version, just pop 'em into the folder and it'll automatically detect them. The official port distribution only comes with the shareware data and you'll have to source the registered files yourself.

There are many crappy levels in Descent 3, but levels 13 and 14 are the worst.

And Merc level 3 is not funny either. It's jarring and tedious and obscenely long. Not fun.
