It's a SaGa game, a game from a series famous for its high difficulty. What did you expect?
The only easy SaGa game are Final Fantasy Legend III and maybe Final Fantasy Legend I.

Nothing made by Akitoshi Kawazu is worth playing and should be avoided like a disease.

Personally, I always found it tedious with equipment constantly breaking. I play games for fun, not to micromanage inventory space.

Welcome to SaGa, time to git gud.
Your character's stats are fixed by the way, unless you mean proficiencies, and grinding is pointless, all you need is the right equipment and the right abilities.

That is a non-factor in SaGa games due to character capable of equipping more than one item along with given items frequently to make up for anything you could break.

SaGa is a complete RNG clusterfuck where you can learn overpowered skills within five minutes or you have to grind for them for hours. Stat growth is somewhat influenced by what you do, but mostly random as well.
