So the NES Classic has now been hacked so you can flash almost the entire US back catalog (with a few exceptions) into the memory at once.

Has anyone had any experience with this?
>>
No because I'm not buying one second hand from a bunch of scalpers
>>
The cord for the controller is literally like 2 feet long. You are better off emulating or buying the actual console. Hell there is even more options for this.

Don't buy this piece of crap.
>>
I'm waiting for the software to mature a little before going for it with mine. Pretty rad.
>>
>>3778478
You can buy an extension cable for like five bucks.
>>
>>3778478
the reset button is on the console, so it makes sense the cord is short
>>
>>3778630
Using the same program that is used to get new roms onto the nes classic you can set a reset button combo to the gamepad, down and select I think.
>>
>>3778465
This would be great if there were any left in stock anywhere.
>>
>>3778630
>I have a pain in my foot, so it makes sense to amputate it.

Love it, got better when hacked.

However I do want the emulator to be updated.
>>
>>3778668
>However I do want the emulator to be updated.

In what way?
>>
>>3778675
FDS sound emulation is off on Konami games, also more mappers and some games (Gun Nac, Air Fortress and Mendel Palace) have some of their graphics glitched out.
>>
If you just want to pirate all the games, why even buy an NES Classic?
>>
I'd rather just get a rpi3
>>
>>3778756
of course you would™
>>
>>3778465
Wait, the entire catalog?
I though it was limited to 90 games max.
>>
>>3778858
Previously it was, but now the current version of Hakchi can flash pretty much all of the NES catalog, although a few roms simply won't work.

For the novelty of having a tiny NES, and for the slick UI with all the box art on display. Plus, I personally like the CRT Filter.
>>
>>3779049
I kinda hate the CRT filter.

Anytime a game uses a interlaced effect the filter shits itself and creates artifacts.
(Super-C for example)
>>
>>3779112
Pretty sure this happened on real CRTs with NESs back in the day.
>>
I would have experience with it if Nintendo would manufacture more than 12.
>>
>>3780302
Are you cynically suggesting they are intentionally limiting supply in order to create aritificially high demand?

Way to defend a stupid decision with a stupid decision.

It could've just as easily been on the controller, where it would've made some fucking sense to be.

I did. I also hacked it and added all the games I care about (58 roms). I don't think I need anymore, but the possibility of include the entire library sounds inviting.

Yeah. Anyone who hasn't been living under a rock has.
It's pretty simple. They didn't put much effort into as they knew it would be hacked. And I assume they're happy to sell $10 shit for $whatever to l33t haxors.

All the little bitches complaining about scalpers give me the giggles. I was in a toys r us the other day and they had them. Maybe their mommies will take them there for their bday?

I just got these and saved a lot of money and I'm happy with it, I'll buy an official NES controller and some official games I do care to own like: Crystalis, Dracula Kid, Willow, The Immortal and other few not to expenssive games with the money I saved buy not buying an imperfect emulator box

Nigga that is a pitiful amount in proportion to things.

From the very mixed reviews I've seen, all these Retron machines are far from perfect. They're just emulators anyway that happen to be able to read the original cartridges.

Been hacking my NES Classic since the first day that Hakchi was released. It's pretty damn good, and I think I got my $60 worth out of it.

There's also rumors saying that NES Classic modders are trying to get SNES and GameBoy games on it, so fingers crossed that it actually comes true.
>>
>>3782620
All the Retron uses emulation. If you want hardware clones buy retrobit like SuperRetroTrio
>>
>>3785148
Incorrect; the Retron consoles that are numbered below '5' are all standard NOAC/SOAC hardware clones.
>>
>>3784917
>modders are trying to get SNES and GameBoy games on it
That's all cool but there's only ~300mb of memory in the NES Classic. You'd need to limit yourself to a some favourites rather than the whole catalog, which for the SNES is ~900mb.
>>
>>3785492

I don't understand why people are trying to fit the whole catalog anyway, if there's one thing i've learned from emulating games I've never played, it's that there really isn't very much worth playing besides what's popular. I was hoping to find a treasure trove of gems that I missed as a kid, but no, the top 100 lists you see generally has you covered for worthwhile games, and even those usually have some stinkers on them.

In any case, I feel like adding anything that isn't 8-bit would kind of ruin the novelty of the system. I would add Game Boy, and MAYBE Master System games at most.
>>
>>3785523
There are a number of good games the NES CE doesn't support the mapper for though, but I mean I wasn't even expecting it to get hacked like this so I'm not disappointed.
>>
>>3780623

Some issues, like some Famicom games give you an error shortly after starting up, some games are straight up not supported, but the hakchi tool will tell you about that before hand. Sometimes there's a patch available that will make the game work, but only for like a fraction of them.

Also I personally have experienced insane slowdown during battles in Final Fantasy II that make me not want to play the game. ( though it's probably for the best ), and garbled graphics on this penguin platformer ( the one that people meme him eating the candy )

They are constantly working on getting unsupported games working though. The next update is coming soon.

Apparantly they just figured out how to add Retroarch to it.

I'm only interested in using this thing for NES games though, adding Gameboy and Master System at most.
>>
>>3788697
I understood it just fine, but it doesn't make the guy any less cringeworthy to listen to.

>>3788701
To me the attraction of hacking this thing is to just add more nes games while keeping the emulator and front-end in tact. If we are to load different software, then i might as well make a more powerful pi3 machine
>>
>>3785523
Exactly. I want to meet the person who actually plays and enjoys EVERY nes title. You're bound to have favorites and most of the other games you will maybe play once and never look back.
>>
>>3788640
I don't know about the retron thing, but I have a few famiclones and they all do their job just fine. I also have some of those "chink shit" cartridges and they're great. My waifu loves them. Get something like pic related and you're set. You have more than 100 worthwhile games (you don't need every game in the library), you can play them on real hardware and spend way less than you would by buying every single game from scalpers or even a flashcart.
>>
>>3788701
Cringeworthy... hundreds of thousands of people talk like that. You're just a basement dweller. Get some fucking culture. I would imagine most "normal" things would make you cringe, do to your extremely sheltered, autist life.

>>
What's the point of buying and then hacking it when there's plenty of emulators for free?
>>
>>3789796
>getting to play on your TV with HDMI

>having a decent user interface

>having a good quality version of the original controller.

I'd rather just emulate on my computer as well but I definitely see the appeal if you're really into the NES
>>
>>3789824
Maybe it's just for fans.
You can hook-up a laptop to a TV with HDMI and there are plenty of USB NES-like controllers.
Not to mention that you get a SNES mini, N64 mini, PSX mini, etc etc as well.
>>
>>3789832
The original target audience of the NES classic is not retro game collectors or emulation users.

It's for the standard joe that hasn't touched an nes since his childhood and wants to return to the good-ol days without having to fuddle with a DIY emulation console or buy overpriced original hardware and carts. It's the same target audience as the Wii's virtual console store.

I heard about this thing from someone who didn't even know emulators existed, and kept hearing about it from people that were like "remember the old nintendo? those were good days".

So I just laugh at anyone on /vr/ that ridicules it, or recommends people run emulators instead. They are obviously not the target audience.

It really is mostly the novelty of a mini NES with all the box art on display, and it's getting more and more customizable every day. I've got custom BGM for my menu screen.

Also the save feature and display options are really nice too.

It's not like I don't have a modded wii, but i'm never going to be using it for NES games when I have a much nicer way to play.

It's like eating off of the really decorative dinner plates vs eating it directly off of the table.
