Has youtube done more harm or good for the "retro game community"? With prices sky rocketing and the craze of the reality show style game chaser shit I feel like it has done more harm.

Its had an effect.
But for those in the know. It's probably overall more positive than negative.
If all you give a shit about is collecting physcal copies of games? You probably hate e-celebs and youtube.
If you want to know how to 1CC Metal Slug 3, or how to speedrun Yoshi's Island, or restore an arcade cabinet, or mod a Sega Dreamcast, or fix a controller, or clean your console, or a slew of other incredibly useful niche information, youtube is an insanely powerful resource
Fact is, you have multiple avenues to get these games. Whether its Eshop, PSN, Xbox Live, Steam now getting some retro games, and the age old emulator and rom sets.
Youtube has done a lot more good than harm over the last 10 years.

It's only an issue if you're a nintenbaby, sega prices are generally quite good.
Yes

I think it equals out. Prices are crazy now on ebay/gamestores, but things like the NES Classic wouldnt exist without the retro game community

Be cautious, anon. It is just a matter of time. Even things like MSX Metal Gear are at astronomical prices.

Youtube is the worst possible method to get that information. Text tutorials work better and don't waste my time.

More good, of course. Before LPs became a thing the community was almost entirely collectors. Collectors derive joy from the tears of children who can't have what they have. Now millions of children, who have always got any toy they wanted, have been introduced to toys that they can't have. The tears flow like mighty rivers. The joy this brings to collectors, who are the only true retro game community, is beyond measure.
