Post god tier shmups
This was hard as balls but memorable from start to finish and had a 10/10 soundtrack
Thinking about it, R-Type III definitely holds up as my favorite console STG of the 4th gen. Even if it is rather slow at the start, the succeeding stages are a quite the ride even with that overpowered R-90. The bosses are bar none the series has to offer too.

By far my favorite.

casual as fuck desu
the only good r-types were 1 and 2

What systems was R-Type 2 for then? Any faithful to the arcade?

This game is too damn hard for me. I can't get past cocaine fueled LSD nightmare level 3. There's just so much shit I can't keep up with.

Wow you're really not kidding. The trippy bit is only maybe the first 30 seconds of stage 3, and probably the easiest part. Most of it is the awesome space castle where you have to dodge spikes and spinning balls like it's a Castlevania shmup and then fight Death. It's actually my favorite stage, which is why I post that screen all the time.

I feel like I should give this series an actual attempt. Pretty much every time I boot it up, I just play for 10 minutes, then play Gradius instead. It's probably just me being a nostalgiafag or something, but yeah. The series is at least on the back of my mind if nothing else.
Is 3 considered the best? I guess a better question is where should I start?

It seems to be a widespread disease among Gradius fans unfortunately.

I would start with either 3 or Delta. 3 is harder, but Delta is my favorite in the series. Amazing music and set-pieces. The forces are also really unique and fun to play.
>>3759073
The best are 1, 2 and Delta.

Gaiares? That game had cute grills for bosses.

Dang right it is. Dragons too.

>Kirby of shmups is too hard
lol

Not particularly hard or impressive, but I love me some Dragon Spirit. It's fun and cozy, and the music and atmosphere are a nice change of pace from your standard space shooter.

Nice Nomad. Yours since you were a kid? Or did you buy it recently?
I never really had an interest in them, but I bought one, complete in box, for like, 30 bucks on ebay, about 10 years ago. Gave it to a friend for Christmas because he had always wanted one growing up. Now boxed Nomads are going for multiple hundreds of dollars. Who'd have thunk?

Yeah I picked it up from a pawn shop for $50 around 2000 or so. These days that a PSP can play all those games with a better screen and actual battery life I don't really use it much anymore. But it's one of the few physical gaming things I still keep around because it's pretty cool.
