Comfy retro town thread?
It's raining outside and I need to feel w a r m.
Another cozy ass town. I spent forever roaming around it.
I was going to say Kalm was the comfiest city but now that I look at the picture it looks sort of creepy. It's the music that is comfy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcEGFAaSpzI
It's so great to hear after all the intense stuff that happened in Midgar.
>>3754185
I wouldn't call Kalm creepy at all. It's FFVII's take on the towns of past Final Fantasy games.
In fact it's comfy as fuck.
>>3754090
comfy as in clashing artstyles yeah
>>3754094
>Nanaki is Nanaki
All it makes me think of.
Do we really need two threads for this literally side by side?
>>3754239
This is what I thought OP's image had originally mashed together with FFVII.
>>3754090
Wow I forgot how nice Costa Del Sol looks. Damn that looks like a good place to be in the dog days of January.
>>3754283
I really like this. Thanks for posting.
Every town was comfy in Legend of Dragoon.
But probably Fletz because it had a lot discover and looks really pretty at night.
Not a town, per se, but this noodle shop was the epitome of /comf/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgYqv3UEnGc
>>3754090
reminds me of this town. they must be based on a real place.
>>3754090
I'm usually okay with emulation increasing the resolution on polygons, but in FF7 it just looks weird when the backgrounds are still 240.
>>3754283
Why was my post deleted in which I called this a piece of shit?
>>3755440
Dunno.
I thought you deleted it.
>>3754090
I love desert towns
>>3755446
Quality janitors we have here
>>3755474
Not him, but if you've been here more than 5 minutes you'll have seen how seemingly random the attention from janitors and mods is.
>>3755474
My original post was just a negative criticism, which is perfectly acceptable. The janitor is just a faggot.
>>3755490
Criticism is acceptable, your post however was basically "HE'S A FAGGOT ABLOOBLOOBLOO" which is nothing more than shitposting and trying to start a fight.
>>3755515
So? I made exactly two posts about it, the first post to say that orito is a shitty artist, and a second to explain why. It shouldn't have been removed.
>>3755529
How is complaining that someone's art is shitty valid or interesting conversation though?
>>3755529
Your post was "One, he's a neofaggot. Two, his art is blurry dark mess of shit."
That's not discussion, that's you just trying to start fights.
>>3755529
I bet you're a way better artist, right?
>>3755426
Well, it seems like Square doesn't have the original environment assets any more, so the only way that you'll see those backgrounds in a higher resolution is if they build everything again from scratch (unlikely).
It really is a shame, some look really, really nice.
>>3755558
That's a claim, his art may not appeal to all but it's not completely amateurish. Care to post something? Its rare I see other artists posting here other than the vrtan guy.
>>3755564
I'll go first even. I've posted this here before, but I only want to post stuff that was done for private commission so the wonderful folks here can't google me.
>>3755558
>le safespace maymay
Shouldn't you be in school? Wouldn't want your teacher to catch you browsing 4chan on the school Macs.
>>3755579
It's cool to talk like a teenager though! It makes everyone know you don't play by their faggy grown up "rules" and shit, yo!
>>3755550
Well, my argument is not that the backgrounds should be higher res, but the polygons should be lower.
Although I bet the pre-rendered backgrounds would be gorgeous in higher res... or would they? I feel like the blur from being in 240 with anti-aliasing is maybe what gives it some charm. If it were sharpened too much, it might create sort of an environmental version of the uncanny valley, where we become acutely aware that we're looking at a 3D render and our minds no longer extrapolate the realism from it and it loses its coziness.
Raculi was such a cute little town with it's big weird pod plants used to support windmills as water pumps and the like.
>>3755806
And of course like everything else in the shit show of a remake, they sucked all the charm out of it to make just another generic town.
>>3755545
I hate when people use this argument. Like I have to be a movie director to dislike a movie.
>>3755838
There is a point to that, but complaining that someone else is shit at something that you also aren't good at just makes you look like a dipshit. Also that guy claimed to be an even more skilled artist anyways.
>>3755414
i'm playing this right now, comfyass game
>>3755814
This one looks better though.
>>3755598
I bought this on steam for like a dollar, how cool is it? Is there actual exploration, can you go in the buildings and stuff?
I think every town in this game is comfy. It's like a miniature feudal japan.
I was thinking if Grillin Village in Brave Fencer Musashi. Maximum comfy.
>>3755838
If something has glaring errors or flaws that really, honestly, stand out as bad, then you don't have to be able to do better yourself.
If there's a quite photorealistic picture of Narshe, clearly drawn by a skilled artist, and you say it's SHIT, then... no. You need to use a lighter criticism, or your just being a spaz. You don't even have to look at that picture.
It's like if someone plays a basically-faithful rendition of a piece on the piano. If you can't do better, but think they're hammering the keys, then you can say it constructively. Otherwise, who are you to have better standards?
>>3756152
It's actually a caricature of Japan after the Meiji restoration, which occurred after the end of the feudal period.
>>3756239
Sorry, during, for some reason didn't realize that the Meiji period actually extended into the 1900s
it was the era of woodblock porn, good times for sure
>>3756145
i dunno man; why don't you try playing the game that you bought to find out
It was comfy to me. I wish I could l live in the flutter. Just give me some good internet and a place to land for food and fuel every month.
>>3756264
you need therapy.
>>3756270
>Mad cause he didn't think of it
>>3755854
No it does not. That makes no sense. Would you say that you are not qualified to judge anything that you couldn't do better? I can't dislike a game unless I'm a master game designer? I can't dislike a song if I couldn't be a one man band and record a better one?
Fuck off with that shit logic m8.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL9hI0aXEAA
>>3754090
damn ps1 had such shitty graphics and such shitty perspective in those 2.5D games.
>>3756452
More like if you can't actually say anything specific about why it's bad, or what it is about it that you don't like, you might as well just shut up because who actually cares about how you think or feel as a person?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcHt_eCHFA0
>>3756452
Saying you don't personally like something, or it's not to your tastes is one thing. But saying someone is shit at something that you yourself are even worse at mostly just makes you look like an idiot because you don't really know what you're talking about. Just spewing your opinion but trying to make it sound like it's an objective truth.
But also remember, the guy claimed to be a much better artist in his own right but then never followed up and deleted all his posts. So 99% chance he was just trolling the whole time anyways.
Xenogears had some seriously comfy places
>>3757582
>>3756452
>Would you say that you are not qualified to judge anything that you couldn't do better?
Actually yes.
>>3755572
Not technically /vr/ but your pic reminds me of it.

Also, have a based remix:

The towns of Wonder Boy in Monster World are very comfy.
>>3757818
Then you don't get to like or dislike anything ever and it's your own fault for being so rigid.
>>3757582
it probably has the comfiest overworld music of any videogame, tied with FFIX actually.
Legend of mana is the comfiest game ever made.
>>3758472
Wow, that really is. What the hell happened to this style?
>>3759953
What is this jpeg mess, the Twinkle Tale setting?
Not sure if considered retro by the rules of this board, but Rogueport always felt like home
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTYnay4WYTI
>>3760219
It is not, sorry.

That midi music....

>>3756505
perfect.
>>3760267
Dali was wonderful.
Still drink vodka and listen to the piano version every now and then.
>>3754692
Was coming to post this game, but I really like the first town you visit that Lavitz is from.
Moooostache maaan
From a foreign land
Pokemon R/B was comfy but G/S took it too a whole other level with the day/night mechanic
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0j9AOEhzO8
>>3760976
Day/night was a massive game changer.
Almost as life changing as being able to plug your gameboy in.

This music is great.
The broom closet in hp2 GBC of course.

Sounds like something off the Goldeneye soundtrack at the start
https://youtu.be/C2BKtxNPq6k
This is a good place. Music slightly repetitive though.
One more coming.
Had an amazing time here even though it came down to "Grats you solved our puzzle, you get nothing."
