I've got a problem with my 3DO FZ-1, everything but the CD player works, the tray works but the lens doesn't move and the discs aren't spinning. Could anybody who repairs CD or DVD players fix this? Or is the 3DO the specific for that?
Clean the laser. Unfortunately I don't think there are any ohm adjustment pots on that model and there don't seem to be any replacement lasers available either. I should really fire mine up just to give it a little exercise it's been off for years.

Yes, you has one.
It`s possible to replace the entire CD drive with a compatible PC CDROM drive.
Check on youtube for tutorial.

>compatible PC CDROM drive.
What falls under compatible in this case?
Old drives, the kind you would find installed in a Pentium 3 box or earlier.
No DVD capability, IDE connector not SATA, also there are different lengths of optical drive; some may be too long to fit in the 3DO.
Look for something with a headphone jack and volume wheel on the front. Such a model will be from the correct time frame.
If you succeed you may get very fast load times as the 3DO only has a 2X drive stock.
Does your 3DO make any noises when you put in a disc? Listen Carefully.

Source? If this is true any ODE that can be forced into CD mode and have or work with an adapter to PATA could be used as a replacement. Not necessarily as cheap or convenient as modern alternatives but could an option.
