Post yfw you realized this is supposed to be a foot and not a smiley face
???
>>3705373
Nice job adding that extra black pixel to the left of the left eye
>>3705363
looks like a potion.
>>3705380
That's the way it is in the game you big ol dummy
You know, even if this is a silly bait thread, I'm happy we're discussing about that little chap at last, he was always one of my favorites.
>>3705424
Is he made of gum, which causes Mario's feet to get sticky, or is he made of rubber since he goes 'boing' when Mario runs on him? Perhaps he is both rubber and gum.
>>3705424
Is he even in any other Mario games besides World?
>>3705424
In times of trouble, he was always with me to cheer me up. RIP triangle guy 1991–2016
I've always thought it was a smiling watermelon slice.
>>3705429
The GBA version of SMB3 has some extra levels with them.
>>3705429
this is a very good question.
I don't remember any other game where we got trianglebro.
>>3705460
NOT CANON
Why do things in Mario have faces? Mountains, rubber/gum triangles, items...
The blocks are cursed toads. Were some cursed to become other things? Or is the fauna just that crazy?
>>3705489
Well by the parallel universes / inner earth theories it would simply be a different evolutionary paradigm, so those things would have just evolved with faces. Notice how they have faces that show their emotion at all time, but never talk or interact in any way. It doesn't seem so much as a cursed entity but as a part of the inanimate object as a way to represent its reaction to its surroundings or interaction. Like when the mountain gets hit by the castle, or the thwomp when they attack.
The parallel universe and different evolutionary timeline theory really pleases my autism on this issue.
>>3705489
It's cute and gives the game a psychedelic cartoon vibe. Remember every world in the game is named after sweets too, I guess it was made to appeal to children or just for a certain style
>>3705460
God I loved the Super Mario Advance series. They might not look like much now, but at the time, being able to play what were console games with better-than-SNES graphics on a handheld was mindblowing.
>>3705496
Anon... Are you under the impression that inanimate objects undergo biological evolution?
>>3705502
NORMIES GET OUT REEEEE
>>3705508
In this parallel universe some do. Like the hills which have eyes. Or triangle guy.
>>3705502
Are worlds named after food in other games too? Wii and Wii U games were not, Super Mario Bros until 3 weren't either, if I remember right.
I attribute the food naming in SMW to Yoshi's gluttonous nature, not for places truly being made out of chocolate and such.
>>3705520
You're correct, I think it's exclusive to SMW. As to why—it's just cute. Japanese love sweets, it seems. Too bad the tradition didn't last
>>3705489
Because in the first game, Bowser turned all the people into bricks and stuff. So everything with a face used to be a person.
>>3705496
BUT THATS JUST A THEORY

>>3705363
Imagine a face that expresses "What the fuck even"
>>3705539
Didn't Warioland have food names for the different areas?
>>3705998
This is the theory on which the Mario Bros. movie is based.
>>3705464
Just like the animated Star Wars series "Rebels" and "The Clone Wars."
>>3705428
It always looked like a slice of watermelon with a smiley face to me.
>>3705489
The world map looks really nice. I used to wonder if there were other levels beyond what I was seeing when I was around 7 or 8. Like the forest of illusion - going all the way right of the lake or if you could somehow climb the waterfall left of the top middle of the screen.
>>3705489
Remember Mario started as Nintendos Popeye stand in. It's a callback to old ry cartoons.
>>3706169
Hey, you're correct. I forgot SM3:WL had food names for most if not all areas. Though personally, I consider it a Wario game.
>>3705363
Its a watermelon. Everythings named after food so it just goes to reason.
>>3705496

>>3705460

>>3705508
It could have easily been evolution through human involvement like how dogs evolved.
>>3706169
Super Mario land 3: warrior land is my favorite handheld game of all time.
I couldn't afford a snes at the time. It was the closest to supermario world I could get.
>>3706729
No fuckin way
It seems the sprite in the OP is somehow fucked, because I just went and checked on the actual game, and I don't see that extra pixel.
>>3707016
It's not fucked, OP is a shitposter.
>>3707025
I think it might really be some corrupted sprite dump or something, because I've searched on google and the same pic came out multiple times.
But yeah, it's not the real sprite.
>>3705363
Even the Mario World cartoon got it right

>>3705363
No but that's not right it's got eyes and a mouth it's not a foot at all right? RIGHT?
>>3705489
In Super Mario Bros 1 inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom were transformed into blocks by Bowser, although they don't have faces just an eternally suffering human soul. I don't know what was going on with Dinosaur Land.
>>3707293
>>3705489
I thought it was supposed to look like a scaled down world map, hence the world title.
It even has Newfoundland.
>>3708529
I also always thought it was reminiscent of the real world, but everytime I brought it up people told me I was nuts, glad to see I'm not the only one.
>>3707062
Wow they even got the fact that Yoshi doesn't climb up it but bounces on it in there
>>3707086
They probably just looked at a SMW manual and thought they were commonplace.
>>3708619
Everyone told me I was nuts too.
>>3707067
These things would be pretty cool in Mario Kart actually. Although I guess the need for it was superseded by the anti grav stuff in 8.
>>3708529
>>3708619
How so? Eurasia would've been huge. South/North Americas are out of scale. And where's Japan?
>>3708748
It got lost in the Lost Forest.
>>3708748
What if Super Mario world is based on one of those maps where Asia is on the west and America is on the east side?
>>3708769
It still makes very little sense. All the mountains and lakes make it unlike any immediately recognizable geographic area. It doesn't even resemble any character or anything like that.
I guess it was just random placement, arranged in a way to make a player go around the "world" and enter Bowser's cave.
>>3708748
>out of scale
Yeah, it isn't mean to be 1:1, it's just vaguely similar.

Mario eats mushrooms like, Crazy.
The mushrooms he eats are obviously amanita muscaria, which, according to wikipedia, does this:
>Perceptual phenomena such as macropsia and micropsia may occur, which may have been the inspiration for the effect of mushroom-consumption in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,[87] although "no evidence has ever been found that linked Carroll to recreational drug use"
Shiggy himself once said that Alice's story was kinda of a inspiration to super mario, so we can safely conclude that Mario eats Amanita Muscaria.
By the time Super Mario World comes around, Mario has already eaten a fuckload of mushroom, developing a really strong tolerance to it, and being able to ingest larger doses.
By ingesting larger quantities of the mushroom, Mario would be consuming larger quantities of Muscimol, one of the biological agents of amanita muscaria.
This compound, when ingested in big doses, causes changes in perception, specifically, makes the uses see things alives, for instance, straight from the wiki:
:About 90 minutes after ingestion ... I noticed that I was experiencing changes in visual perception. These effects became stronger over the next hour or some, and were characterized by sensing an 'alive quality' in inanimate objects, wavy motion in the visual field like a Van Gogh canvas ... and mild distortion of size, distance and depth perception. Auditory hallucination were also prominent -- especially the effect, called 'anahata sounds' of yoga, of hearing fine high-pitched sounds like bells and violin strings
tl;dr - mario is so fucked up on mushroom he is seen inanimate objects as alive.
>>3706363

>>3711925
Adding to this, shrooms were legal in Japan until 2002, when the japanese government was forced to forbid them due to the amount of gaijin that were going to be visiting Japan due to the FIFA world cup.
>Prior to 2002, psilocybin mushrooms were widely available in Japan and were often sold in mail-order shops, online vendors and in head shops throughout Japan; according to Hideo Eno of Japan's Health Ministry narcotics division, prior to 2002, "You can find them [psilocybin mushrooms] anywhere."[10] In June 2002, Japan Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry added psilocybin mushrooms to Schedule Narcotics of Narcotic and Psychotropic Drug Control Law, possibly in preparation for the World Cup, and in response to a widely reported case of mushroom poisoning. Use, production, trafficking, growing or possession of psilocybin mushrooms is now illegal in Japan.
It's more than likely a lot of game devs did shrooms at some point in their life.
>>3712172

Not retro but the worlds in New Super Mario Bros U have food-themed names.
>>3712267
Doug?
>>3711925
So by 64, his perception of his own face got fucked too?
>>3712172
Not retro but in one of the katamari damacy games every item you roll up have descriptions and the mushroom descriptions literally teach you which mushrooms to eat to 'laugh uncontrollably'
The hiker with hay fever in Pokemon Red/Blue was tripping on mushrooms he ate but they censored it. Plus you pick shrooms and sell them in one of the games.
Mother 2 has the whole mushroom head aka it's mushroom status effect and more shroom selling.
Newer animal crossing games let you harvest magic mushrooms too.
>>3708526

>>3705363
its a ramp.
>>3711972
>Yoshis aren't being born they're actually being released from captivity inside eggs
>>3715973
Supposedly the ones in the special worlds are newborns though, and when unhatching them, they go from babby yoshi to adult yoshi
Kinda raises a lot of questions? Did Bowser regress them into babies in eggs or something? How can Bowser just reverse aging to the point of practically unbirthing creatures? Can't he just turn Mario into a fetus or eggcell or something? That would be horrifying

>>3721210
I would buy that if it weren't for DiC having a long history of completely fucking up Video game character designs, particularly the villains.
There's no way you could look at their original sprites and get the DiC versions of King Hippo, Mother Brain, Dr. Robotnik, and Simon Belmont and come up with what they did.
