Some spaceship game on Sega Megadrive or Genesis that I've never been able to find. You played in a white airplane-looking ship and blew up turrets and missiles in the first level. The explosion effects were hilariously graphic the way I remember them. The second level had you man a drilldozer and tunnel through an underground mine field.

First of all it's next to impossible to choose a single game, so I decided to go wit that because a) I liked it a lot back in the day b) still play it from time to time and c) haven't actually finished it yet, and until I do I'll probably just keep playing it.

As to what I like about it, it's mostly the general look and feel of the game. I was always big into fantasy and dragons in particular, but most games had a cartoonish/anime aesthetic that made them look somehow less real or authentic. This one in comparison has a dark, gritty look with digitised characters and dragons that looked somewhat realistic. Also, the variety of dragon bosses: big, small, aerial, stationary. And as a bonus, that cover art. As a kid, I was already in love before even starting the game

Really, it just boils down to a potent mixture of childish fantasies, nostalgia and dragons.
