Would've been a nice thread.
>>
>>3660748
Every time I post a screenshot, people complain about my filtering. What's so bad about that?
>>
>>3660749
we like pixels
>>
>>3660749
You're literally compromising the art so you can pretend you're playing a flash game.
>>
>>3660716

Play it however the fuck you want. There is no "right" way
>>
>>3660749
It looks worse than without them.
>>
Vector Graphics and Pixel graphics are different from the initial point of design, you can't just translate one into the other.
>>
>>3660748
It could have been if you and other dickheads weren't so easily triggered.
>>
>>3660798
There is a wrong way though, and OP found it.
>>
>>3660805
If we aren't it sends a message that the shit is okay. It isn't okay.

Yes! Play Ballblazer on the Atari 7800 and be enlightened. The Famicom version makes me sad.

Honestly I just discovered the HqX filter on Nestopia-UE and I find it nicer/easier on my eyes to have the smoother graphics while playing the original Dragon Quest. Either way it's not that big a difference. Y'all being ... let's just say unreasonable, OK?

I could understand if we're talking about a game where the pixelated art style is iconic, though. But that doesn't seem to be the complaint here.
>>
>>3663343
Just tested on LoZ and I find it quite a bit nicer there also. More or less a flat-out improvement if you ask me.

Likewise for FF, though you could argue it botches the iconic appearance of the characters there...

OP here. The pic I posted at the beginning was taken while I was using Hqx4 Filter in NTSC mode. It's absolutely godly in my opinion. Most people here are against the use of filters simply because they say that they violate the original aspect of the game. This is true, but playing on emulators is just a violation per se; if one wants a truly original experience, it should play games on thr original systems and call it a day. For people using emulators, filters are awesome. In my opinion filters are also less aggressive to my eyes than pixels. All those pixels hurt after some time.

Dear god it's a bait thread. I mean, I don't really give a fuck if people emulate PAL games or use filters, but this thread's intent is pretty clear.

Your words are also pretty clear: you're probably a lonely person that needs a help. Seriously.

Heard good stuff about this game, it's like Castlevania they said. But it's hard as balls.

How hard is it? Let's say, compared to US CV III.
>>
>>3664438
I find using hqx4 is nice through my CRT. It gives the backgrounds a pleasant smoothness that the CRT keeps crisp and clear.
>>
>>3664472
How could you tell?
>>
>>3664438
>It's absolutely godly in my opinion.

you're a fucking idiot
>>
>>3664575
I don't think it ever gets all that much harder than the toughest parts of CV3. However, the difficulty is a lot more unrelenting: the very first stage in Holy Diver can take some real effort to get through. It's hard enough that I imagine some people give up on the game before clearing it.

A lot of the standard enemies that start becoming common in the later levels are also considerably more durable and lethal than any that appear in CV3. Holy Diver does allow you to choose any available "sub-weapon" at any time once you've unlocked them, though, which helps even the odds a little.
>>
>>3660749
you must play with scanlines
>>
>>3660882
Looks beautiful.
>>
>>3660882
Impressive
>>
>>3664575
>>3664680
I think this game is by far the hardest on the system, as someone who has beaten CV III, Battletoads, and the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy.

After the 2nd level or so enemies start doing massive damage, taking massive amounts of damage, and generally being a huge nuisance near pits. I would argue that the game becomes almost a puzzle game as you need to discover how best to use your magic to pass certain areas.

I think Code Name Viper counts as a lost gem. It was a moderately popular game back in the day, and damn fun too. I never see anybody talk about it these days.

Definitely a great game. Seems like nobody ever talks about it though for some reason.
It is pretty fucking easy though once you get into the controls and all the bosses are mostly mashing the button to kill the boss faster
than he kills you except maybe for the last two bosses that involve a bit of strategy.
In fact just made myself a repro of it a few weeks ago.
