there is something that air combat had that most of the others didnt have with its vintage cheesiness. Ace Combat 2 does it pretty well too but when there isnt a flying aircraft carrier at the end it isnt the same.

It gets overlooked the same way Tekken 1 gets overlooked, because the sequels are more refined and easier on the eyes.

Looked into it a while ago, if I remember correctly explosion-animations got stuck onscreen after shooting down enemy players.
