Probably because Nightdive re-released it in 2013 so now more people have access to it.

It's a nice and dark adventure game (but not funny dark as in the harvester or phantasmagoria, this one's legitimately dark and depressing) based on the most popular story of Harlan Ellison, i recommend it (also Harlan's writing, nothing astounding but quite interesting)

Can confirm this game has always been discussed. I saw it on underdogs like 10 years ago and was just 'meh' interested.
