>What is Phantasy Star Online?
Phantasy Star Online is an MMORPG released on the PC, Dreamcast, and Gamecube, and Xbox in 2000. The game focuses on hack-and-slash combat unlike previous Phantasy Star games, and relies on teamwork & strategy.
Since then, Official servers have since been taken offline but there are fan made private servers running to this day.

>Where can I play?
https://ephinea.pioneer2.net
Ephinea is the best private server around for PSO as it provides a feeling as close as you can get to the original servers, while also adding new and unique features to the game.

First for FOmar is objectively the worst class.

I keep wanting to play but I just can't get back into it.
>>
>>3637486
its fun once you start going. you get motivated once you find a decent party of people to play with.
>>
>>3637359
Forces period are just there to s/d hunters and rangers, lets be honest
>>
>>3637694
FOmarl is a good class they can use pretty good weapons
>>
>>3637541
It just never feels the same. I spent like 6 months straight playing the one on Xbox Live with voice chat and I just get into this one and it feels like an old hollow shell with barely interested half-playing half-not population.
>>
>>3637752
You're talking about Phantasy Star Universe? Yeah I loved that shit I had it for xbox too. Was so pissed when they closed the servers because even though PSO is better i really loved that game. And the population gets better throughout the day, if you love the game you can get into it.
>>
>>3637770
Nope, PSO for original Xbox Live.
>>
>>3637694

S/Ding Hunters and Ranges is the minimum a Force can do, but J/Zing enemies, freezing enemies with Rabarta if you don't have an android on the team, nuking if you're a FOnewm, tearing through Vol Opt's first phase with Gizonde, and stunning some EP4 foes with Gifoie is very, very useful.

A good Force is basically the team's toolbox to control many different types of situations.
>>
It's a cliché to say "it gets better with other people" but PSO really did.

It was a real fun romp to go through with friends, making characters, going through quests, sharing weapons, trying to get a good set of equipment, juggling mags, grinding up bit by bit, and then facing Dark Falz at the end.
Then doing it all again for Episode 2 and Episode 4.

And that makes it even more painful trying to get into it again, as an adult.
I don't really have a lot of free time, and what bit I do is spent on /agdg/, so I can't really keep up with people.
And when you play by yourself, everything's hollow. Combat's clunky. Item pickups are annoying. Environments become the same old same old. It's no longer an adventure.

I miss the old, colorful world. If only I could go through it one more time.
>>
>>3637780
we should set up a /vr/ party or something, also its way more fun by yourself during a double XP week

fuck you op, this is why I said post it in that other thread so people can input ideas for a GOOD OP, fucking mmorpg ffslol

what is Phantasy Star Online?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw6hosekixk

Its an OMARPG
online multiplayer action RPG

Science fantasy based, 4 player co-operative 'dungeon crawler'
you work as a team of hunters sent out from the fleet to protect, preserve or research information on government or private client missions to help understand why the native animal inhabitants have been turning vicious and attacking.
Team up and search the area for information and gather new items that will help you grow and explore new areas.

There are multiple classes and skills to chose from that each specialise in specific masteries, such as close range combat, ranged combat or offensive and support techniques .

born in the year 2000 and subsequently ported to other consoles and PC, the internet has brought together the global population, 6 billion players to find out just what is going on down on the planet Ragol.

PSO:BB is the last release version for PC, it spans 4 episodes, and has the most content and active community, please download the game and make an account at https://ephinea.pioneer2.net

Dreamcast and PC v1/2 can still play and connect on legit consoles and use the saves from 16 years ago if you have either a BBA adapter for Dreamcast or a dialup service.
The UK can use http://www.myfreeisp.co.uk/ to configure the 33k modem using a dream passport disk and plug straight in the socket and connect to https://sylverant.net/
Non-uk players will need to use a code breaker and create a network bridge to get online, its recommended to just play V2 the PC version, its the same game, ported to PC and can play with the dead DC community.
please note the v2 PC/DC version is not the same a PSO:BB that has much more content and active players at

IF
you already know about the series and have played before, but can't face the low level grind or simply don't have the time or motivation
SANDBOX mode was added just for you.
Use server commands to craft and create a character and items at the point you want to start at.

Perhaps you just want to cut straight to ULT lv 80 and a couple of essentials for ranger, or try out a specific build to optimise a cmode run or just simply recreate the lv 200 you had on other servers that no longer exist

you need to make a specific account for SANDBOX mode on Ephinea because they are segregated from the legit players, its only fair that the sandboxers get to play with other sandbox mode players.
for the full information and server commands check here

https://www.pioneer2.net/community/threads/is-pso-old-to-you-sandbox-mode-added.1154

If you REALLY like a challenge there is also HARDCORE more
Rules:
>If you die, your character gets deleted.
Exceptions: Scape Doll, Ragol Ring (but no Reverser, no Moon Atomizers; mag reverser still gets decided)
>You can’t play with non-hardcore players (hardcore character names are red).
>Double experience points.
>Double Meseta drop amounts.
>130% rare item drop rate.

You can see all the different modes and services that Ephinea has to offer here

https://ephinea.pioneer2.net/what-ephinea-brings-to-the-table

You can choose PSO2 style drops where everyone gets their own drops and no more redbox ninjas too!

Yeah, let's not use acronyms that nobody has used in the history of ever. Acronyms are useless and confusing if they're not well known. Saying 'online action RPG' is fine. (Specifying multiplayer is redundant, it wouldn't be much of an online game without it.)

yeah it was fun, until they went batshit insane with episode 4 with anime otkau little girl loving gay faggots and boy traps, not to mention pets and the fucking awful enemy and area design FUKYEH AMERIKA AND T-REXLOL!111!

the core design and engine of pso2 is amazing, completely trashed and wasted in the hands of incompetent directors and a generation of pussybois that cant even tell apart their gender from their gentiles that want to run around in a competition to be the cutest little girl

it would have been less of an insult to the franchise to just add tab target auto attack hotkeys and make it a wow clone

>>
Do mags work the same on this server as every other?

I was never good at raising those due to the stat balance.
>>
>>3640353

Yep.
>>
>>3640359
Should I even bother trying to make a optimal mag on my first go? I know babby ones will drop periodically.
>>
>>3640363
its better to just target your mag in one specific area first depending on what class you choose.
>>
>>3640363

Power and Dex for both Hunters and Rangers, and pump Mind for Forces. Def is a dump stat.

There are "ideal" ways to raise a mag for each class so you can hit max stats for a class, but the game is easy enough that you'll be destroying the strongest enemies long before you'll hit max stats. Focus on the stats I listed earlier and you'll be devastating enemies almost as well as someone playing a maxed version of your class.
>>
>>3640368
>>3640376
Cool, also does this server have resets for stat increase items?
>>
And since I'm in the mood, here's a breakdown of stats and if they're useful or not.

HP: Very useful. Pump it up with units for most of the early and midgame, since it matters more than Def does for surviving enemy hits.

TP: If you're going to cast techs, duh.

ATP: Essential for Hunters and Rangers, not important for Forces unless you're doing a dumb gimmick melee FOmar build.

DEF: Useful early (like until the end of Hard), then becomes a dump stat.

ATA: One of the most important stats in the game. Boost it the fuck up if you're going to be using a weapon for combat.

EVP: Dump stat. Most Ultimate enemies have so much ATA your EVP doesn't matter at all. Boss attacks usually can't be evaded with the EVP stat, so it's shit there too.

MST: Essential for Forces, since it determines how much damage attack techs do and how much Resta heals. Might want to bump it up as a non-FO for better heals if you really need them or to learn a high-level buff/debuff/Resta early, but otherwise keep it as is.
>>
>>3640389

Yep.
>>
>>3640391
how do you boost your stats exactly? say im a force but wanted to increase my ATA level, what would i do?
>>
>>3640408
you can only get ATA through your mags dex stat at a ratio of 0.5 per point, so you need 2 dex for 1 ata.

You can also get hit% rolled on weapons, but other than that, there isn't anyway to increase it, it has no materials for it
>>
>>3640408

Boost your Mag's Dex skill and put Arm units into the armor you're wearing.
>>
>>3640420
>>3640416
im guessing you can only increase your tp and hp through mag feeding as well
>>
>>3640427

You can't boost HP and TP directly with mag feeding. Besides leveling, you can boost HP and TP Materials and armor units.

Enemies will drop HP Materials, but TP Materials can only be gained in some minigames, like the gambling machines in the Gallon's Shop quest.

TP will also be raised every time you MST is boosted, so bumping up your Mag's Mind skill will also give you some more TP points.
>>
>>3640435
good to know, thanks for the tip
>>
>>3640408
>>3640416

you can use units like >>3640420
said, /arm namely Heavenly arm will give you a whopping +25 ATA per unit and they stack to a max of 4

but a heavenly battle or v101 is more important for the attack speed boost

The fields are always shit, this game is anti-fun as fuck without the multiplayer aspect, its hardly a game solo.

Jokes on you, I play sandbox mode and can just /item anytime lol

I've lived through the thousands of hours of legit rare hunts, I've lived through the non legit rare hunts using trainers 1hko warp and fast techs, learning cheatengine to exploit items from quests and all that shit,
now I can just enjoy the game however by making items and characters at whatever starting point
Starting over is the fucking worst when you already spent thousands of hours hunting, hacking and standing in >B/T rooms amassing all the rares, equips and multiple lv 200 characters.

BTW, the rare rates are like that because the game was designed to be THE online game of the new millennium, yes, 6BILLION players
and it encourages trading, the same reason section ID exist.

Yes, the game is designed around 4 player action noway?!
why would I play an online game solo?
and like >>3642515 says, there is the 1player story quests that are far more interesting than pso2's anime school femboi generic shit.

Is it possible to solo everything as a cast? I don't care if it's harder, I'd rather be engaged while I do shit and it's not like it matters how fast you progress considering the point of the game is to grind.

Thats not much of an accomplishment when Sega is worse at handling online then NCSoft even.

I like Sega and their games a lot but god damn they are the benchmark for incompetent online.
>>
>>3648495
No, not even close.
But considering you only can have 4 players max per game it dosn't really matter.
Having a few hundred people on a private server is good enough still for this game.
I'm not sure if Sega ever released sub numbers though to accurately compare it to other MMO(ish) games.

It might not be possible with every server but there was definitely gamecube compatible servers made at some point.

I know schthack had them at one point, but they're probably as barebones populated as the DC ones now

I think they'd be even more deserted, dreamcast has a small but enthusiastic group of players that use online, the gamecube's modem is pretty uncommon and only supported like 2 games anyway.

I've never played BB (tho I did rinse the shit of the NGC version in local coop back in the day), is it playable with kb+mouse, or just controller ?
>>
>>3673982
You can play with either. I prefer controller though.
>>
anyone wants to play version 1 on dreamcast? i just started a new character and never played online despite owning the game since it came out. i just finished building a dreampi setup
>>
>>3673982
Mouse control is a joke. I'm gonna go as far as to say it's not even an option. Lots of people play with the keyboard, but I recommend a controller. I use a PS2 controller using the Dreamcast PSO layout. (You can rebind buttons once you're in the game, so you'll have to create your character with the keyboard.)
>>
>>3673982
Controller is probably best, but I like using mouse and keyboard for force since all those extra keys mean less managing what spells are equipped.
>>
>>3674152
>>3674323
>>3674417

Thanks guys, I tried with the keyboard, it's a bit jerky since there is no mouse look, and way less precise than a stick. But that will do for now, I don't have any controller with me atm.

Also I remember a shortcut on the NGC version which allowed you to switch weapons rapidly, without opening the main menu. Z+Y IIRC, it would open a small window on the lower right corner, with quick access to weapons/items/spells on separate tabs. I can't seem to find it, does it exist in PSOBB?

What don't you like about BB? The only complaint I have about it is that it's based on the Xbox port and is locked at 30fps. Are there any quirks to V1 that make it worth playing still? I played it on DC when it was new but I was a kid and didn't know jack shit about it at the time despite playing it a bunch.
>>
>>3674737
Just about the only things it has over the later versions are Hit materials and Status/Maintenance. Its drop rates are so horrendous that they make V3 and BB look good. And even then V2 is still better in every way.

But if PSU and PSO2 didn't tip you off already in the past 10 years, people are allergic to anything and everything new, and BB was never an exception.

Heh. Even with a controller there's no camera control. All you can do is hit your centre view button to switch to the direction you're facing. They really should have added camera control by the Gamecube version, or Xbox at the very least. The Xbox had dual analogue sticks, yeah?

>>3674462
You can rebind keys, m8. Check to see what ctrl is bound to in the menu and see if it can be mapped to something sane.
>>
>>3674880
Drop rates are fixed ephinea and aren't nearly as annoying
>>
>>3675129
The lack of camera control sure is a bummer, but at least it's easier to face an enemy with a stick, rather than WASD.
And I tried to remap the control, turns out you can rebind End. Even with some tools from Ephinea I couldn't assign another key.
I guess I'll try to find some cheapo 360 controller then, or just stick with the keyboard (which at least lets me play wherever I want)

HUnewearl (lady space elf hunter) is the best for beginners imo (and one of the most versatile classes overall). unfortunately, you are a space elf in skimpy clothes. HUcast and RAcast offer more strength, sturdiness, and dignity, but can't launch fireballs. if you are like a lot of weirdoes on this site you may be tempted to pick the FOnewearl who is a cute young girl, and you will learn very quickly that this is a bad idea unless you like hiding behind your teammates

IIRC stats are affected by race, and gender as such
male classes have better strength and defense (hits hard and take harder hits) while female classes are better at techniques (space magic) and accuracy/dexterity (shooting things)
androids/casts get better strength, defense, and accuracy, can't use techniques, but are the only ones who can use traps
newmans (space elves) are better at techniques
humans are "balanced"

also androids and newmans have regenerating HP and TP, respectively. it only works while you stand still though and isn't really that fast, only really effective if you park your character in a cleared out room and have to go to the bathroom

Low level is the part of the game where you progress the most. Once you hit Very Hard suddenly you're stuck doing forest over and over again because you're too weak to proceed, or have to drop back down to Hard. THAT is tedious, I don't know how anyone can dislike the low level stuff where you can actually do whatever you want without much trouble.
>>
>>3691850
I dunno why you were doing forest only because once I hit the lvl 40 mark I went straight to ruins with some buddies. Yes the enemies have ridiculous amounts of health (damn Dark Belra) and they can pretty much 2-shot you but as long as you're properly geared up and play online it ain't too hard.

How do you GET geared up? At level 40 you're lucky to have some shit level 20 armour with free slots, some shit units to put in those slots and likely to have no decent weapon at all. I'm lucky to have a Supressed Handgun, nothing else I have can scratch 'em.

And it's all well and good to say 'do it with some mates' but it's not as easy as all that on such a tiny server, is it? Unless you know people around the same level you're stuck hoping a stranger of comparable level will join your room.

i'm playing as HUmar and I've been stuck with varista for quite a while, so what are some better weapons for hunter?
>>
>>3693419
Gun is just utility for Hunter. I prefer Zalure S-Rank or an Arrest w/ hit, depending on area.

Don't get too wrapped up in 'what is best'. You can easily solo endgame with simple shop bought charge weps w/ hit. The shit you find along the way is just gravy. After a while, you no longer even care to stop and check red boxes. Just another Dragon Sword or Justy or whatever, anyway.
>>
>>3693553

DESU Charge Vulcans for a single target and a crowd-control weapon (Charge Arms or an S-Rank Needle for Ranger, a decent rare sword for Hunter) are usually going to be your bread and butter for most of the game.

Sperging over stuff like getting a Red Sword or something like it with high Hit, going on a Lavis or Psycho Wand hunt, or a maxed Red Ring isn't important for your ultimate success; it's just there to give you something to do when you can destroy most enemies with utter ease and need that little extra something to keep you going

That said though, just play w/e you want dude, if you want to play a RAmarl, go for it, they still good soloers and the stat differences in the end aren't really so huge that its a major consideration, its just that everyone hypes up RAmarls to fuck and back, as if every other ranger is irrelevant.

I get that you don't like how they look but they are awesome for solo play. I accidentally made my dude look like Master Chief which i am not happy about but i'll be damned if it's not the most versatile class.

Besides having decent damage output, i can use Shifta, Deband, and Resta, so it's pretty hard to actually die on this dude. I just want some cool mechguns now.

Does anyone understand how mag evolution actually works? All the charts have an equation, like DEF, DEX = POW, SYNCH or whatever. What the fuck does that mean? Every time i evolve Kalki i want some cool wings but i get the stupid double-dildo ones that look like bird beaks
>>
>>3696392
http://www.pso-world.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=1240 this is the best chart for non special ones.
And about your question: they are ordered in highest to lowest stat. In your example Def needs to be the highest, Dex and POW need to be the same and sync has to be the lowest.

Are you having problems with the Zus? If you have a class that can cast techs, spam Gifoie while the others kill the critters.

Once you learn Ep4's quirks, its probably the easiest episode in the game in Ult. It doesn't have things like Baranz rockets, Indi Belras spamming their arms, Gran Sorcs' Megid 30, Ob Lillies, Meriacols instakilling you, Ill Gill or Sinow Zoa gangrapes, Deldepths in general, or Epsilon ohkoing you with his BS purple panels. I'd rather deal with Zus, Giratbulus, and Goran Detonators than any of that shit.

Wanna hear a sad story? I was maybe....12 years old. I had no idea how to really play the game and I never got past the sewers, I didn't know what grinding was so I sucked. After awhile I couldn't get further in the game so I for maybe a month started to text roleplay in the hub lobby with people. We had a whole RP group of like 25 people...what the fuck was wrong with me?

I'll never forget this song because it was ALWAYS playing when I RP'd.

If you need some extra cash, play Very Hard or Ult TTF.

Pick up the armor, shields, and non-Force weapons Vol Opt and Dark Falz drop in their boxes, then sell them. You'll make a ton of money that way, especially if you sell strong armor and weapons with attributes. The money you get at the end is also a great bonus.

After two VHard TTF runs while using Charge Vulcans on the bosses, I went from 960000ish to the max of 999999 doing this. Make sure you have lots of room in your inventory, tho.

>>

>>
>>3699028
Laughing because everyone already does this, and has since the day they started playing.

It's common sense if you need cash to pick up armor, shields, and maybe ???? weps to sell to get your bank up. There is literally no other legit way to make bank than this or finish an easy, higher payout quest quickly anyway.

But if you want items to sell fast, the box room in PW3 might yield faster returns. Not sure myself because Meseta is pointless unless I need to spam VJAYA for LSB or something. I certainly don't go out of my way to farm it, even back when I was raising MAGs.

So the bad news is that you can use it as a controller but not a keyboard. At least, that's what my own testing shows with this:

http://mayflash.com/Products/NINTENDOWiiU/W012.html

On the Gamecube, the keyboard part of the key-troller only works when plugged into port 4, but I tried ports 2 and 3 of the usb adapter as well to no avail.

It simply doesn't recognize the white 2nd dongle that carries the keyboard functions at all.

I don't doubt that some hobbyist who knows enough about electronics could figure something out to get it working because there exists a ps2 keyboard to Game Cube adapter that does the reverse. It came with the Datel Powerboard.

So it goes.

tl;dr nah nigga

Anyone else like enemy parts weapons? There's usually more "optimal" weapons using the same effects they have, but there's something really fun with using repurposed Baranz parts to launch Charge-powered rockets at enemies, slicing foes to bits with S-Red's Blades, or Demon'sing with a sweet Bringer's Rifle.

It pisses me off when you try to do this with other people. Especially the three in TTF. Just let me confuse them and run! Stop attacking them and creating another target for them that will keep them alive and you dead!
>>

I think people are too used to killing them and not letting them deal with each other.

Confusing them is fun, but most of the time either some newbie ruins it by running next to the Garanz or some l33t pro kills the Garanz with his TJS +30 or 70 hit Charge Arms before you even have a chance to shoot the confuse trap.

This is why I hate playing with pubbies and only want to play with people who either I have played with before or that I know have finished C-mode.

It's not even about the meta. It's about me not wanting to have to use every Moon in my inventory to keep some worthless fuck(s) along for the ride only to be blindsided because someone did something completely un-calibrated to the current situation. And then told that no one has any Moons and to just take a pipe. Fuck those guys. Fuck them doubly when they cause both of us to die with no pipe set and we have to run back all the way back through the stage to the room where it all went to shit.

One time, I was playing with someone who kept attacking Ult Falz despite him having another players' soul. Obviously doing more damage faster then that player could recoup with his charge mechs, and killing Falz just after that player died. Thus robbing him of the exp. What a piece of shit. I would have been livid had that been me. Like running around my house with my hair on fucking fire. What an intolerable douchebag.

How do I play online with the GameCube version? I have the broadband adapter. Does it need to be a wired connection or can I use wireless?
>>
>>3713453
I use both, depending on what I'm doing and which version of the game I'm playing. It's not a simple explanation for text only.

If you plug an Ethernet cable directly into both your modem and the BBA, you will be able to connect to most servers with the NOT Plus version. To use Plus, or to connect to a server other than Sylverant, you should connect the Ethernet cable from your BBA to your wireless device and then run Mr. DNS or Dr. DNS (out-dated now). To connect to your own server if you ever decide to set one up (it's easy and fun, but I am not explaining this here), you need to connect the BBA to the hardware hosting your server, be it a laptop, desktop, whatever and use NOT Plus after making sure that any other internet connections have been terminated. It will hang if you have a wireless connection or another Ethernet cable plugged into the server device. Log off before connecting with the game.

This is just a general overview without specifics, but the details are not hard to track down. Hope to see you online, eventually!

What is the difference between the Plus and non-Plus version, and why is the former more restricted? Doesn't sound like a plus to me.
>>
>>3713680
Plus included 3 Episode II quests and removed the online double save that is theorized to lead to memory card corruption. They also made it so you can dodge Belras by standing still, which is a glitch that was fixed in NOT Plus... An earlier release. Go SEGA!
>>
>>3713707

Specifically, it adds the Tower quests.
>>
>>3713453
I don't know how much time you have invested yet, but I would recommend backing up your save data every once in a blue moon. While starting over is fun, I would be quite upset to lose all my current characters which have taken me thousands of hours of play thus far to build.

If you have the BBA, you need to spend like $15 on an SD adapter and a 2GB SD Card. Get the PSOload and GCMM programs and you're in business.
>>
>>3713707

These dudes state they are doing it for the love of the game, so i assume there is a poker millionaire or cou architecture programmer somewhere in the mix. ~$2k per month is affordable to a few dudes with a lot of loot and a nostalgia boner.

I love it. This is such a relaxing game for me to play, it has a community atmosphere but you only need to get as involved as you want to. The endgame doesn't really change much for me when playing with friends or strangers, it's almost always pleasant.

PSO2 drop style eliminates any incentive for shittiness or swindling, so i've been having an awesome time, and it didn't cost me a cent. The dudes that run it seem to just want to play the game like it used to be and that's a pretty dope vision for the world desu senpai

Ephinea's community is really good desu. People are willing to help newbies and are generally pretty accepting in Ult, as long as you're hitting stuff.

>>
>>3717778
Yeah, but you inevitably get to a point sometime after Level 160(ish) where you pretty much have everything except those rarest of rare items. It kind of helps to have an out of reach hunt on the back burner just to give you a reason to stop chatting in the lobby and make a damned game every once in a while.

I mean one of the first thing someone you have just met is likely to ask you is what are you hunting.

Also, I don't get the folks who want to buy S-Ranks. C-mode is fun as fuck. You are literally robbing yourself if you just bought one without having played through at least once with some bros.

An AddSlot will let you put one slot in your armor until you hit the max of 4. The PD trader in Gallon's shop sells them for 1 PD. You can also get them from Ult boxes with most IDs, and Yellowboze Very Hard Garanzes have 1/43 odds of dropping them.

Decided to roll a HUcast hunter - androids are pretty cool, and I'm always the boring swordsman in games.

>>
>>3722021

FOmar is pretty bad but the others are gud.

If you want classes that are great for beginners, pick RAmar, RAmarl, or HUnewearl. Don't pick a Force until you've got the hang of the game, even if you want to be a FOnewearl so you can be the little girl.
>>
>>3722113

HUcast is good, but your accuracy sucks.

However, you have godly attack power and can freeze enemies with your freeze traps, which makes it much eaiser to hit them.

Yes, they are GOD-MODE in Ult, but in the earlier difficulties, they kind of suck. Or maybe I just do?

Like I didn't start doing C-mode until I had been in Ult with 3/4 characters for long enough to forget this, and I had a Hell of a tough time adapting to how long they take to go off and how small the area affected was.

I have had 4-player Ult games where he was a total push-over who mostly stood still and didn't do much. But there have also been others when he goes fucking BERSERK, and we all run around like our heads are on fire trying to keep everyone alive.

question from someone who played since the gc but only got involved with the fan base recently; we didn't always refer to them as casts, right? did that start up with PSU?
>>
>>3726161
I think they're referred to as both androids and casts in PSO.
>>
>>3726206
No, just Androids. 'Cast' is just part of the class names, like 'newm' or 'mar'. PSU was the first game with a Cast race.
>>
>>3726836
Yeah, 'cast' has always been the term used by players even back during V1, which is probably why SEGA just called them that in PSU anyway.

I have never seen another player refer to them as droid or bot or anything else really that I can remember in all my years playing every version.

Kind of off topic, but one of the few things I enjoyed about PSU was the inherent racism, and how that kind of fed into the story at times. Although in retrospect, what a shitty story it was...

If youjr'e playing solo (like on the DC or GC), go through quests, then do free play without a quest.

If you're playing online, you'll be doing quests for a vast majority of the game.

Spawn in the guild room. Exit, and to your right is a big door. Door goes up, enter teleporter room, and head down to the planet.

define "beat"
there's not much of a story to conclude, and it's in the game's lore that you beating a boss is not the end of that boss; it'll rise again and again, for other players to kill it over and over, until years in the future where some other crazy stuff happens. you have to seek out tidbits of story, and piece together what happened. if you really wanted to glean out every bit out lore, you'd have to talk to every npc in every quest, read every log you find, and check the quest board for any more details, sometimes running a quest more than once

if you just wanna say "I beat the final boss" you could just go through every area once -- four in Episode 1, four in Episode 2, and two in Episode 4, maybe get done in a day or two, depending on how thorough you are. you'd be missing out on a lot of quest content and R A R E D R O P S if all you did was go through each area once, though
>>
>>3732502
Any mag guide for the original vanilla game is still relevant for Ephinea. I don't think mag stuff has been touched.

>it's in the game's lore that you beating a boss is not the end of that boss; it'll rise again and again, for other players to kill it over and over, until years in the future where some other crazy stuff happens
It's nowhere in the story, not even De Rol Le's lore implies anything of the sort. It's only true for the first two areas of episode 2, because it's just VR training.

There are also story quests, and even "government quests" in Blue Burst.
>>
>>3733654
In Episode 3 it's canon that at least Dark Falz and Olga Flow regenerated and were put down again and again by Hunter parties, but I think it's also implied that they got stronger each time this happened.

IIRC, Endu, the HUmar with the Arkz faction, is actually the "child" of Red Ring Rico/Dark Falz and Heathcliff Flowen/Olga Flow, created by the resonance made by the bosses as they gained power.

>>
>>3737643
SN, Froozer, and Charge Vulcs are the holy trinity for rangers, as far as I'm concerned. I honestly was not of fan of soloing in Ult at all until I found all three. Hell of a lot of fun to be had after you get all 3.

It actually made me hate playing a hunter or force for a while because I was having so much fun and you can rely on those weapons as a crutch to some extent.

These days, I actually try not to rely on them at all solo, and generally don't use them unless requested for a particular run by someone I'm playing with. They can make you lazy with positioning if you depend on them too much.

I'm going with the mags recommended at https://www.pioneer2.net/community/threads/ndws-guide-for-stat-maxing-characters.421/ and even with them there's a huge difference. My RAmarl can use Rayguns at level 19 and I'm well on track to use Lasers and Arms before the end of Hard.

Newbies seriously underestimate how useful MAGs are. Getting the cash to feed one is hard if you're starting out, but if you're making an alt, there's no excuse not to send 400k mesetas to a new character and spend some sessions feeding while alt-tabbing to browse the web.
>>
>>3739653
There is a very cheap way to get lots of mesata with a new character.

Play the "The Tinkerbell's Dog 2" quest on ultimate difficulty. There are no enemies on that quest but plenty of boxes that can drop equipment.

I usually play Phantasmal World 3 in Ultimate with my Force to get quick cash. It has a ton of boxes early on, and all you need to do is Megid or Hell some Dolmolms and Morfos while going left to reach the box bonanza.

For offline/solo play, yes. Probably even higher than that due to the reduced number of enemies and also their lower HP and DFP.

Online though, there are so many better options, and only Charge Vulcan really remain the best viable option for mechs. Charge Arms and VJAYA both have their places, too, but it's more situational. Using Charge for anything else is really just a place-holder for a better rare. Like I often use a Charge Diska with my HUcast because I haven't managed to pick up a S-Rank to put Zalure on yet and still haven't found the stone to make a baton yet either.

Seconding this. People know how to lock a room. If it isn't locked, consider it an invitation. If you have questions, ask. Most people on the server are more than willing to help a newbie.

That said, if a room is labelled "Mag" or "Bank", then people are feeding mags or fucking around with their inventory respectively. You're free to play around in there but don't expect people to be ready to adventure or chat (though they might)

I already knew the system and classes and MAGs and stuff, but didn't see anything else about the game beforehand, and going in half blind and discovering everything by myself was interesting. I also didn't interact with anyone in the server before finishing every EP1 sidequest because I was shy. Exploring Caves alone with a shitty Dim Handgun +3 was tense. After that I started playing with randoms and it was very fun, though.
I still don't know much about the game, know only the most common rares, and didn't try much of Very Hard. I didn't even touch the government quests yet, so there's more to do next time I play.

I have some questions.

1. Are Charge weapons really that good? How much meseta do I spend with every attack?

2. How do I "donate" to a photon blast?

3. Do shops start selling rares eventually?
>>
>>3751885

1. They're great because money is easy to get in VHard and Ultimate and it doubles the amount of damage your attacks do. Charge weapons take away 200 mesetas per hit.

2. Hit the Word Select key or button during the little dance people do before the photon blast creature appears.

3. No, but they do have the chance of selling yellow weapons with really good hit once you get around level 100, which can be great if its a Charge weapon.

Thanks. I have another question: what exactly are teams, how do I join one, and what do I get for doing so? What is the "dressing room"?

is your monitor really 1280x1024? dont see them very often these days.

Yellow is unlocked at 150 or 151, I believe. I had 2 red casts, HU and RA with complete sets of Red Charge weps, and couldn't upgrade to Yellow until at least 150.

Also, for anyone looking to buy charge weps which match your outfit because fash>meta, you can buy lesser versions in lower difficulties. So if you want Red - VH, Purple - H, Blue - N, Green - Nigga, you cray.

A team lets you build up team points to unlock rewards. You can get team points by converting rare weapons you don't need to team points. To do so, join a team, then select the "team" option and hit the "Point Registration" option. The amount of points you get depends on the amount of stars a rare has. The more stars a rare has, the more points it will give.

With enough points, your team can unlock things like the dressing room, a team logo people can see next to your name in a lobby, and the "Point of Disaster" and "Revenge of the Robots". Point of Disaster is the Episode 4 version of Towards the Future and Respective Tomorrow that lets you fight either Shambertin or Kondrieu.

The dressing room lets you change most aspects of how your character looks. However, you cannot change how tall or wide your character is in the dressing room. Once your team has unlocked it, you can accesss it when selecting a character.

To join a team, ask someone that's in a team in the lobby if you can join the team they're in. If they have room, they'll either send you an invite or refer you to a team mod or admin that's on.

If you just want the rewards, its best to join a large team, like PSG or TeamPoints, because they've already unlocked everything.

The dressing room and Point of Disaster are nice, but IMO, the real benefit of a team is letting you recycle crappy rares like DB's Saber so you have more room in your bank for good yellow weapons and rares.

Just wanted to say I never thought this thread would make it to 500+ posts. Kind of neat.

You can get the Gladius and Raygun starting from level 100, but the others come at 150. However, I managed to stock up on 35 hit Charge Vulcans from a store with my HUcast when he was level 118, long before I should've been able to.

Thanks. Oh, and one last question: how do I hit those invisible lizards in EP4 with guns? Do I have to bait them into their attack animation? I've found it easier to just switch to a saber and melee them.

>>3752119
Yes, and I was using a 1024x768 CRT before but it died.

>>3752140
That weapon I found right at the start of the Caves was a Varista. I should have given it to you, since you were just starting.
>>
>>3752216

Lizards are practically invulnerable to ranged weapons, from firearms to slicers. You'll have to pack a melee weapon (ususally a multi-hit one, like a partisan or an Excalibur) to deal with them.

With ranged-invulnerable lizards and enemies that teleport to you on being hit, EP4 really is a big fuck you to lazy Rangers. Thank you.
>>
>>3752216
>>3752220
Well you can shoot them from behind but you only get a few shots off tops until they turn around. Realistically you should have a melee weapon with you in these circumstances.
