hi /vr/, i've been trying to play ps1 games on my ps2 using popstarter with a USB flash drive. However, after I did all the steps I go into ULaunchELF with FMCB and still i get nothing but a black screen and the game will not load. Any help with this would be appreciated.

can someone just help me please

>Going broke over PS1 games
Any other system and you might have had a point.

There is a mod chip you can buy on eBay for about five shipped. It's modbo 5.0 I believe and is a chink knock off of the original teams work. The knockoff is better though because it supports loading from USB. If you can solder, have at er'.
Try some different versions of the .elf and read the guides at psx-scene as thoroughly as you can, it's easy to miss a little step or two.
I can't really recommend the app for any long-term use though, even when it's 'compatible' you still get crashes. Just get a modchip or a pre-modded console and save yourself some grief.

you have three good options:
>mod your ps2
>have someone mod it for you
>buy a cheap good PSP and load it up with PS1 games
and you have one bad option:
>try some shenanigans with popstarters and USB drives that are shaky at best
not even memeing and not trying to be a cunt, i think your best bet is to try a different approach. i prefer the PSP, it lets me play SOTN while i send some jamaicans down the porcelain run

i just tried the PSXLAUNCHER.elf method with disc swapping. works perfectly now.

DON'T use the betas, use the stable build.
(Betas give me a BSOD on my softmodded 50001)
So, a some what related questions. What is the best mod chip for the PS2 to play PS2 and PS1 games, where can I get it, and does it have good instructions?
>>3627047
> The best modchip. Modbo 4.0
> Instructions, depending on your PS2 model
Better to install FMCB and play PS2 games w/OPL and PS1 games w/Popstarter
>>3627051
Ah, I have FMCB but I am using a PS2 slim.
And popstarter? Never heard of it.
>>3627051
If you wan't to install a modchip, you must know the model of your PS2. Not only if its a Slim, also the model number (SCHP 7XXXX). They have different boards.
If you have FMCB, try a search for Popstarter. Popstarter is a PS1 emu for the PS2.
>>3627071
its a 70012
>>3626937
(Forgot to mention)
And also defrag your USB stick/HDD
>>3627073
Modchip requires some soldering abilities. Better to stay with FMCB.
try a search for Popstarter for PS1 games. You WON'T need a PS1 memorycard, the saves will store in your USB stick/HDD
>>3627081
I have the skills just never knew what chip was best.
Would help if the images they had where nice high rez pictures though.
>>3627083
Try a search with your PS2 model. As I say, there are different boards for each
PS2 model & modchip.
The best ist Modbo 4.0 (I'ts a Matrix 1.93 clone)
>>3627083
You must know what vXX is your board.
Here's an example: http://i39.tinypic.com/2va08p3.jpg

I'm off. I'm going to sleep. (And sorry for my bad english)
>>3627089
Ah alright. Well I haven't opened this so I have no idea the revision.
>>3627091
You won't need to open to know your board model. You'll know that only with your PS2 model (SCHP 7XXXX)
skapps.com was a good reference for this, but i'ts down since some months ago :(
>>3627094
Well fuck
>>3627182
Thanks for that. It seems the information is a bit outdated though and list Mobo 3.0
I imagine you hook up the 4.0 the same?
And it mentions a laser fix?
>>3627187
Huh?
