So i just got an Nes at the flea for $5 with Mario cart included.

Only problem is it doesnt come with the AC adapter. Is there any way to check if this thing actually works before dropping $20 for an original one? i have a Snes and Super Famicom.
>>
Hold up, how the hell did you manage to find a $5 NES in this day and age?
>>
>>3616191

flea market, seller was a middle aged lady selling furniture and clothes so it was just luck plus it doesnt come with the ac adapter so no way to check if it actually works she wanted $8.

Im in the Houston area.

>>
>>3616205

original mario bros cartridge, no duck hunt tho
>>
>>3616206
That thing's shit. I bought one and whoever made it had no clue what they were doing. Some games are NTSC and others are PAL, so you never know if anything's playing at the right speed.

Get an Everdrive N8 from DHGate or something, then you can play everything.
>>
>>3616213
>Get an Everdrive N8 from DHGate
>100 for a cart to pirate instead of just $12 for just the 150 good games on Nes.
>>
>>3616213
>so you never know if anything's playing at the right speed

if you cant notice then why would you care? are you literally autistic?
>>
>>3616189
A model 1 Genesis ac adapter or turbografx or master system ac adapter will work on the nes. Also some cordless phone ac adapters will work on the nes.
No way the ac adapter should cost u 20$ it should be 10 tops.
>>
>>3616189
Why do you have both a SNES and a super famicom..? Are you retarded?
>>
>>3616198
Do you often go into threads just to shit on them without offering anything worthwhile to the conversation?
>>
>>3616206
I wouldn't worry too much about >>3616213

I have that cart and an everdrive both (just recently picked up the flash cart, used the multicart before that). Almost every game on that cart works fine. There are only a few PAL games and they're common titles like Mario 2 (US). It's a great collection. If you just want the jist of the NES library, that cart accomplishes that well, though it's missing CVIII, which is a must if you ask me.
>>
>>3616254
>Why do you have both a SNES and a super famicom..?

love how the super famicom looks, but american carts dont fit in it so i got a Snes too.
>>
>>3616231
Would you really not mind if someone slowed down a random bunch of your games by 17%?
>>
>>3616263
Adapter?
>>
>>3616231
A 17% difference in speed is a pretty huge fucking difference and can fundamentally change how the game plays. That's why people in PAL countries often import NTSC games or mod their console to have 50/60Hz switch, because they play so fucking slow compared to NTSC.

And playing a game written for a 50Hz PAL console on a 60Hz NTSC console just plain sucks, because everything is going at hyperspeed and render some games unplayable.
>>
>>3616269
I'm not sure why, but the PAL copy of Mario 2 on this cart >>3616206
plays *faster* than normal. It's really weird.
>>
>>3616269
if i dont remember the correct speed of those games then i dont care, havent played nes in the last 10-15 years since my emulation stage.

literally, the only way youll notice the slowdown is if you play them both side by side or go watch some autistic youtube "celebrity" playing it and compare it to the game in that pirate cart.
>>
>>3616274
Regardless, you shouldn't fuck with the speed or timing of a game, which PAL almost always does.
>>
>>3616274
That's because the PAL version of Mario 2 is speed-adjusted so it plays at the same speed as its NTSC counterpart on a PAL console, but that means it plays way faster when played on an NTSC console.
>>
>>3616279
Oh agreed. It's pretty shitty. Fortunately I own all of the games that have PAL ROMs on there anyways (and a ED N8), so it doesn't matter.
>>
>>3616278
Or you eventually play an NTSC version of the game only to find you're horrible at it despite sinking hours into the PAL version.
>>
>>3616269
It's the system that runs slower, you idiot. Don't talk about things you don't understand. This is how it works with games.
We'll presume we're talking about an NTSC 60hz console. If you have a PAL game (PAL A and PAL B may be different, however) where the ROM is unaltered from the NTSC-U release it will run exactly the same as its USA counterpart cartridge. Some games are altered so the sound plays at the right speed in PAL consoles but the gameplay is slower, like Mario 3 or Zelda II. These will play at the right speed on an NTSC console with faster music. Then there are games like Kirby where the PAL versions were altered in an attempt to rectify the slower speed, these will play in odd ways on NTSC consoles. Early games are generally unaltered from the USA release, later games are often changed. But the slower speed is due to the console, not the games. Of course, the NES is region locked, but that's an easy mod.
>>
>>3616303
so if i just lift the 4pin on the region lock chip then games will run at 60 on an NTSC Nes?
>>
>>3616318
It does this on mine. Can confirm. Fucks with speed though.

>>
>>3616206

I remember some anon made a list of the region the games on that cart actually were.

Anyone got the link? it was on Google drive i think.
>>
>>3616349
No clue about the drive list but here are all the PAL games:

15. Parodius(EUR version)
16. Gun Smoke(EUR version)
22. Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles: Tournament Fighters(EUR version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters)
29. Super Mario Bros. 2(EUR version)
46. Castlevania(EUR version)
55. Kirby's Adventure(EUR version)***
81. Blaster Master(EUR Prototype version)
115. Banana Prince(EUR version of Bananan Ouji no Daibouken)

Full list of games here: http://somerussianmariodude.blogspot.com/2016/02/150-in-1-pocketgames-famicom-review.html
>>
>>3616318
Do you mean PAL games will run at 60hz on an NTSC console? Yes, if you disable the lock-out chip they'll play on the console. The NTSC console can't play at any frequency but 60hz, however some PAL A and/or PAL B games will play differently because their ROM was altered in various ways to compensate for the change in frequency.
>>
>>3616337
It wasn't one little error. You whole post was based on the erroneous assertion that PAL games run slower, when it is PAL consoles that run slower than NTSC consoles.
>>
>>3616206
Nes emulation surpasses the original console.
>>
>>3616353

Thanks for that anon, so in conclusion... no big deal about those games palying at different speeds for me since i bought thar cart for literally every other game.

>>3616356
gotcha, thanks.
>>
>>3616368
How?

With PS1 and the like you can improve the framerate or resolution through emulation, but you can't do that with an NES game.

I once had the same problem while I was a 10yo. While playing with a Lego train set, I noticed the AC adapter for the train controller actually fit the NES.

Fucking hell I felt a happy genius that day.
>>
>>3616189
Just use snes power brick to test it. You may have to clean the pins on nes though to make sure it works
>>
>>3616415

actually, the Super Famicom adapter fits on the Nes plug but im not sure if it will work so i dont wanna risk to blow my $5 off.

Unless any of you confirms that itll work at least for a quick test.

L O L after a quick search for Nes adapter specs ive found the Sper Famicom is almost identical the only difference being it outpouts .750ma instead of the 1ma the original Nes adapter did.

So i went for it, plugged my Super Famicom adapter, put the game in and it fucking woooooorksssssssssssss, first try.

damn i feel so lucky, now just to order a couple Nes controllers from Ebay.

Any suggestions as to which 3rd party controllers are good or shiould i go for original ones isntead?
>>
>>3616473
Go for originals. The third party ones on NES are pretty shit tier. Oh and congrats on your working console! I got mine for 30 bucks and I thought *that* was a steal.

Next step for you:
Either >>3616206 if you're on a budget
$14 bucks here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Top-quality-72-Pins-8-bit-Game-Cartridge-150-in-1-with-game-Rockman-1-2/32378136051.html

Or if money isn't a huge thing, go for an Everdrive N8. Jews will try and tell you the Chinese N8's suck, but I've had mine for years and it works great. Even worked with custom mappers after anons said it wouldn't. You can buy that here for 120:

https://krikzz.com/store/home/31-everdrive-n8-nes.html
>>
>>3616484
Whoops. My bad, meant to post the Chinese Everdrive N8. The link I posted is the official.

The Chinese one is much cheaper. Looks to be out of stock currently though.
This is where you would normally get it:

thanks for that, i will actually order that red multicart over the week, and also some anon lonked a Ruski blog with reviews of some nes multicarts and this one looks also interesting

http://somerussianmariodude.blogspot.mx/2014/08/400-in-1-real-game-famicom-continuation.html

Now if only there was one with Duck Tales ill be pretty much done .

>>
>>3616509

indeed, fucking Chinese pireates why dont they like Ducktales?

Also that one has Shadow of the Ninja and fucking Sweet Home i hope with the English patch, and... is that Splatter House the one on Nes? Wanpaku Grafitti? i fucking loved that game.

Damn i just remembered Kid Dracula too.
>>
>>3616509
What? Both Ducktales games are listed as games 101 and 102. That's actually a really solid game selection.

Mario bros never was bundled with duck hunt.
Only Super mario bros was. Don't know what you've been smoking or whether you're just stupid.
