Is there any rhyme or reason to these fucking fish? I just can't discern any kind of pattern to them, which makes avoiding them extremely difficult.
in SMB 1, they didn't seem to have a pattern either, but you could beat those levels by just going through them as fast as possible. Not so with this level (Awesome).
You pass a spawner and then RNG takes over. Each fis has a set function for trajectory influenced by gravity obviously (PHYSICS!) but the X coordinate where the next fish will appear realitive to Mario's x is then given over to RNG as is the max height.

Well that's very interesting and technical. Thank you.
If you weren't playing on an emulator with 10 frames of input lag, you could dodge them by simply reacting to them.

Assuming OP isn't an underage who can't git gud that's true. Assuming.

input lag can fuck you up in Mario badly though, but it's not due to emulation, it's due to hdmi cables.

This. Playing on my Retron5 feels so different than my NES.
Man even I can beat Super Mario World and I'm a retard. I've been stuck on stage 15 of Castlevania for like 12 years

Fuck that level. I just use blue yoshi and fly over the whole thing.
