I'm tired of Castlevania. The fanbase jerking Rondo and Symphony and, even worse, the thousands of indie pixel crap Castlevania clones made me tired of the franchise.
Most are just shameless ripoffs, and Metroidvanias became a plague.

Are you tired of Metroid as well? While I do agree with you that there are too many poor quality indie metroidvanias I still enjoy the genre as a whole.
Also if it makes you feel any better (it probably wont) SOTN and Rondo are not my favorite.

I've always wondered, what is Soma's ethnicity?

His official bio states that he is studying in Japan which implies he's foreign, but his name is written entirely in kanji. His white hair may indicate albinism making it even more ambiguous. Soma as a name is Hungarian, but Cruz would be found in places that speak Spanish or Portuguese.

I say he's Hungarian or Romanian, likely Romanian to continue the parallels with Dracula.
>>
>>3592672
Hungarian as an ethnic group seems to fit his physique fairly well, its also possible that he had a Hungarian father and a Portuguese mother or vice versa making him mixed. That would at least somewhat explain the name.

1. The holy water is used by pressing up and the attack button(too lazy to even go to GameFAQs for that info). HOW it's supposed to be used is to check for destructible walls/floors or fake floors. The annoying part is that you can spend a good deal of time in mansions throwing a glass at each-fucking-stone.
2. If you come to a lake/cliff, select your current crystal(color does not matter), and kneel. If nothing happens after a minute or two, it's a real dead-end, and you should try another path.
3. Don't waste time trying to get everything. The whip upgrades particularly will be obsolete within two towns or so(aside from the last two).

Those are the biggies, at least.

Justie's dash was god tier, to bad the it required both L and R buttons on a system that was already lacking in the buttons department, I would have loved Justie's dash system on one of the ds games.
>>
>>3595664
It's not underrated it's unanimously hated. I hated it then and I still hate it. I won't deny that there is SOME measure of charm in it, but not enough that I would prefer it over anything other than Haunted Castle.
>>
>>3595818
Not really, the X and Y buttons in the DS games were pretty much the buttons tied directly to that game's gimmick. HOD didn't really have a gimmick so it wouldn't have benefited from extra buttons anyway.

Though I can say this if you consider Juste's magic a "gimmick"; pressing up+L/R rotates through spellbooks, and down+L+R toggles the equipped spellbook on or off.

Soma's critical attack could have been a double tap on the dpad + attack then A could have been used for the guardian souls.

Shanoa's glyph sleeve could have been remapped to up+L+R then A could have been used for the back glyph.

not to mention that the ds had a fucking touch screen that could have been used for more then playing connect the dots or the boss won't die, the glyph sleeve and doppelganger soul would have been fine as on screen buttons.

>Is maybe ""Sypha" a way of spelling "Silvia"?

Sypha's name is サイファ (Saifa) in katakana. Silvia would be シルビア (Shirubia) or シルヴィア (Shiruvia), depending on how they wanted to render it in Japanese.

She's officially known as Sypha Belnades in Japan and the US, as far as I know. That raises a more important question, though: How in the world do you get Belnades from ヴェルナンデス (Verunandesu)? Vernandes would be a direct way of handling it, and you could BS it into Fernandes or Fernandez, which is what they did for Carrie's last name in Castlevania 64. The fact that Belnades completely drops a hard N sound from the katakana (Veruna*n*desu) is really strange, and has always bugged me.

Even Japan sticks to Belnades as the official English spelling, though.

Anyone else feel that the inverted castle in symphony of the night was lazily put together? There were some interesting traps, but there was no reason that those couldn't be new areas altogether, it almost seems like the team that was working on the level art just got up and left at that point.
>>

Actually the very fact that it works without having to rely TOO MUCH on flying is amazing.
There is some smart design in there, like some platforms which may come off as a little weird in the main castle but become crucial in the reverse one.

I tried to like it so bad.Got it last week knowing it was a God of War clone, but fuck me, atleast God of War games are well paced. This game has so much padding in every sense. Animations are way too lengthy (the hitstop on parries is fucking insane), no attack canceling, cinematic camera pans and animated take-downs are too frequent. It is a really nice looking game, but it's a chore. The music is also extremely unmemorable.
