>D is released on Steam
>no one is talking about it or even realizing it
Should I get it? i never played
>>
completely FMV with a goofy story about what D actually stands for. Maybe about an hour long if you know what you're doing. I had it for Saturn, had to look up a guide halfway through for a few parts.
>>
>>3588872
>no one is talking about it
>release date: 1995
If you were wondering
>>
>>3588878
Saturn for this as well it was good for a single playthrough i loved it
>>
>>3588967
>>3588878
Sounds good, but I think I´ll wait a few months before buying it. Stuff published by NightDive goes down in price quickly.
>>
cuz it's already on GOG
>>
>20 min of linear gameplay on 3 discs
If you were wondering
>>
>>3588872
>no one is talking about it or even realizing it

I'd say there's a good reason for that.

>>3589004
I think 'gameplay' is stretching it a bit.

>>3588909
>>3588987
This

There are actual Steamdrones on /vr/, holy fuck.
>>
>>3589082
This

I mean, buying 90's game on steam? Fucking loser steamdrones, so fucking pathetic micro-dicked losers. Buy your old video games from REAL online video game retailers like GOG, fucking steamfaggots!
>>
>>3588872
>no one is talking about it or even realizing it

There's really nothing much to talk about. D is two hours max and mainly consists of FMV sequences of Laura moving room to room. Also buying older games on Steam is a terrible idea 99% of the time because they do nothing to ensure they're actually compatible with modern computers.

Reminder that whenever steam decides to pull a game, it just disapears from everyone's library

happened a few times
>>
>>3589539
I'm pretty it just disappears from the store. I still own plenty of games that are no longer available on steam
>>
>>3589539
Name 1 game that has done that.
I've got half a dozen games in my steam library that were removed from the store that I can still play whenever the fuck I want.
>>
>>3589539
>it just disapears from everyone's library

No it doesn't. They're pulled only from the store, I have a few games that got pulled and they're still in my library.
>>
>>3589565
>own
Steamdrones actually believe this.

It closes one day, you lose everything.
>>
>>3589603
>own
You don't "own" physical games either. Only publishers do. There are many countries in which it is even specified in the booklet for video games or DVDs. For instance the "family use" only close, you're not even allowed to share the physical games you "own" to friends. Other times you're not allowed to re-sale it, etc
Steam is nothing new.

>It closes one day, you lose everything.

Actually, no.

It really is /v/ in here.
>>
>>3589630
>Buy ports and emulators from virtual resellers, my fellow retro video gaming enthusiasts! To suggest going it any other way would be like into being our greatest enemies those bastards over at that other part of our site! Certainly not those articulate, handsome devils the shills!

On topic, D is very much an art game that you will need to appreciate Ito's style to enjoy. If you're unfamiliar, D2 is much more of a "game" and the one I recommend people try first before playing D and Enemy Zero. There's no continuing story or anything despite featuring an identical protagonist.
>>
>>3589630
It doesn't change the fact that Steam is for faggots.
>>

DOS version which is what GoG/Steam have is shit. If you really want to get into Eno's games, start with D on 3DO, then play Enemy Zero on Saturn, then play D2 on Dreamcast, also look up information about D2 for M2.
>>
>>3588872
>one of the most niche games I have ever seen back then
>one of the most niche games ever in fact
>expecting anyone to talk about this

Come on guy what's the matter with you? This game probably didn't even sell 100k copies.
>>
>>3589630
I have the motherfucking CD and they can't take it from me ever, despite whatever bullshit the license say, I can copy it, lend it to whoever I want, etc

Who is going to know? Who is going to stop you? Steam can take everything from you because it is in their servers, fucking idiot.

I'm so going to fucking laugh when Steam goes down, and EVERYTHING goes down, not today, not tomorrow, but it will happen, I give it couple of decades.

This with GoG doesn't happen, that's why is the only acceptable digital store, I can download the shit, play it offline, make backups everywhere I want, will always work even i GoG dies.
>>
>>3589779
>start with D on 3DO, then play Enemy Zero on Saturn, then play D2 on Dreamcast

So 2 out of 3 games are playable only on obscure game systems that are hard to find at decent prices, probably the games are going for even higher prices than the consoles these days
>>
>>3589910
Just use emulators. 4DO, SSF, and Demul, respectively. You could also play D in SSF, but Director's Cut on 3DO has more stuff.
>>
>>3589539
Reminder that you must be at least 18 to post here.

>>3589603
How do they delete everything off all my machines and backups after they close? Top kek kid.

>>3589879
You sound assmad your mommy won't let you use her credit card to buy shit on steam. That would explain why you're so ignorant.
>>
>>3589603
>It closes one day, you lose everything.
yeah... heh... about that...
>>
>>3590006
>How do they delete everything off all my machines and backups after they close? Top kek kid.
Don't they have DRM that prevents you from running the game if you aren't connected to their servers.
>>
>>3590025
Because DRM never gets cracked, especially one as big as Steam.
>>
>>3590042
>have to download potentially malicious cracks from shady sources to play your games

steamcucks will defend this
>>
>>3589779
Enemy Zero on PC can be stolen easily and runs OK on today's hardware
>>
It's kinda neat. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I paid 5 or 7 buckaroos on PC as opposed to $17 or so for the Saturn port.

It does have some creepy atmosphere but it is short.

I still don't know what the flashbacks have to do with anything.
>>
Call me when Enemy Zero and D2 get a release.
>>
>>3590006
>How do they delete everything off all my machines and backups after they close? Top kek kid.

What >>3590025
and >>3590074 said

What a fucking retard.

I used to be an underaged idiot that threw away his money on Steam, but then I grew up.

I buy indies that are nowhere else when on sale though, if I feel I want to play them, like the last Humble Bundle, though this time they came with DRM-Free copies so didn't even bother with the steam keys.
>>
>>3590092
Enemy Zero would be interesting, but that game is incredibly frustrating to play. The final chunk of the game is like 5 labyrinths in a row with no maps or defining features. Fuck that.
>>
>>3590092
But those games are bad.
>>
>>3590105
D2 is by far the best Ito game

Although 2 hours of your time probably worth more than 5 bucks.

It's about the atmosphere and some memorable pieces, not gameplay.
>>
>>3589539
This never happened for me with Prey, Legendary or Fable 3
>>
>>3589252

It was re-released by Nightdive Studios though, and those guys do a great job
>>
>>3590421
>those guys do a great job

Repackage old games in dosbox or clearing up rights issues with old games? Because it seems like you're referring to the former.
>>
I heard authors intentionally made movement video sequences unskippable to make you feel the same way character feels on the same time scale, and it is very unlikely the remake changes that. And it's not like you can change anything else in a pre-rendered FMV game without remaking it from scratch.

And I thought /vr/ was supposed to have a higher average age than /v/
>>
>>3590439
point is, you don't have to circumvent drm with physical media (usually)
>>
>>3590465
This wet-nose here never heard of Starforce and Securom.
>>
>>3589004
Many games are really, really short if you already know exactly what to do though.
>>
>>3590490
Don't buy games that use shitty DRM, simple as that.

>>
>>3590439
Point is you are paying to literally depend on a platform to play, and if it goes down, you would have to crack games you PAID for. You might as well torrent instead of being such a fucking Gabe shill.

Only multiplayer games, or Steam-only games, are worth getting in Steam, everything else makes you a fucking retard.

>>3590501
All DRM is shitty.

>>3590779
Stay mad steamcuck.
>>
>>3591193
Anyone?
>>
>>3591365
D2 on DC is unrelated story-wise.

D2 on M2 is a direct sequel, though it was shitcanned because M2 flopped.

LOLAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>
>>3589086
... Retro games on Steam don't work half the time. GOG is better liked because it has MUCH better track record with making games work properly. I've seen a fuckton of amazing games that had all negative reviews that all said 'great game, but steam version doesn't work.'
>>
>>3592192
Exactly, they literally sell you games that only work on Windows 98, on a platform that requires Windows XP or higher (does it still run on XP)?

And people buy that shit anyway, instead of getting it on GoG or a retail version, that is the level of shillery in Steamdrones, they buy broken stuff that can't be used.
>>
>>3592025
The problem is if you don't respond to obvious bait like that with facts then some retard will read it and actually take it seriously further spouting that crap.
>>
Is the steam version any good?
>>
This thread is terrible. LIKE D!
>>
D is garbage.

As an experience Enemy Zero is more interesting and as a game D2 is far superior
>>
>>3593448
I agree, but it's like two hours long so you might as well get it out of the way.
>>
>>3588872

So what does the D stand for?
>>
>>3593534
Play the game and find out.
>>
>>3592238
well they also spend hundreds or thousands on cosmetics so it's pretty apparent that they ain't so bright

I never played D but the guy behind the company seems cool as fuck, shame he died so young.

Not worth it, it's barely a game. The sequel on the other hand is actually playable and has tentacle fellatio, and that's all you need to know.
>>
bought this game for gf, gave it to her
>>
Its more important that the game is in a playable form over who gets what percent of the money. Because if you want the truth. Most creators, directors, artists in video games don't get residuals. All videogame work for the most part is work for hire. So what you make is owned by the company that is the dev or the pub. Look at the Copyright claim, most say the name of the pub, dev or the IP owner.
