It really sucks that the SM64 hacking community is made up of 15 year olds who hardly know what an N64 is and couldn't care less about their hacks actually working outside of poorly coded emulators.

You're absolutely right, it sucks. On the other hand you can look at the releases in the Goldeneye/Perfect Dark hacking community and EVERYTHING works on consoles. You can't really blame anything but the individual people, it's more than doable now.

The issue is the dude who made the SM64 editor won't open source it and doesn't care about it working with hardware. I'm sure most of the modding community would love to get their games to work on N64
