Alright /vr/, which retro console has the best and widest selection of arcade games and pinball? A new arcade just opened near me with 40+ cabs and 30+ pinball tables and it's absolutely incredible. I want to start buying some games to play at home and to practice for the tourneys they're starting up. I know I could emulate, but I have the money so fuck it. Let me know what you think /vr/.
NEO GEO if you're rich
OP, I think what you want is Pinball Arcade off Steam, the closest digital reproductions of actual pinball machines possible.
What you want is MAME. You'll learn bad habits playing retro console ports of most arcade games then trying to go straight to arcade versions.

Neo-Geo MVS is probably the single most economical Arcade system you can get.
You can get a supergun, windygaming just made a new one and it's pretty damn decent. I like it cause it has the Capcom CPS2 kick harness.
Supergun is going to be the best bet for someone just wanting to get into it without investing in a JAMMA-cabinet.
You'll need motherboards just like a home console, you can get Neo-Geo MVS, CPS2, PGM, Sega NAOMI (different connections) or individual JAMMA boards (these are things like Turtles in Time, where you don't need a motherboard). The "classic" games (pre-JAMMA) are going to require an adapter for most setups.
Let's just do a breakdown for Neo-Geo.
Supergun (250-300) + sticks (50 on average or so, most likely want 2)
MVS motherboard (1 slot top loading pref, around 70-100 bucks)
Games (vary in price, you're looking at 50-100 each, some games go into the 300+ territory)
It's really no different that collecting for any console. It's just got a barrier to entry that makes it difficult to get into for normies.
I'll start looking into Neo Geo stuff

>retro console arcade ports
>for tournaments
dude just emulate them
ports are never as good or as accurate as arcade
emulation is the best way to go
