This isn't directed at OP specifically, but 3x3 threads on /mu/ work because they're a chart of your most listened-to albums on last.fm. It's more honest than listing your 9 "favorite" albums, and sometimes the chart's creator is surprised by what's on there.

You could adapt this to /v/ with Steam "hours played" charts, but not /vr/. Just make a top 10 list or something.

FF 2/Special and the Real Bout series are among my favorite fighting games ever. Everyone suck Garou MotW's cock, and it is a good game, but outside of graphics it's not really all that special, FF/Real Bout series had the trademark bi-plane mechanic that made it stand out from other fighting games.

Not OP, but SO2 is my favorite game, and if you'd like some tips:

Its a really easy game, but it has 2 other difficulty modes. If you're emulating or have some other means of using downloaded saves, you can download a save with all the voice clips found (40% unlocks the other two difficulties) and put it on the second difficulty if you're finding it too easy. Either way you can make the final boss a challenge through in game, but that can be something you look up if you want it

People will tell you mages are shit in this game, and they are in terms of endgame min-maxing, but if you've been given this advice, ignore it for most of the game. Mages are really helpful when well timed for interrupting enemy spellcasters and stunning them to open them for attack. You can beat the game with any combination of characters, so for your first run I'd recommend 2 fighter 1 mage + Rena to have fun while not steamrolling every encounter

You'll get a character at some point who's a hybrid mage/healer. He is utter dogshit, so unless you're looking to be weaker, don't waste the time training him. Again, you can beat it with any combination of characters, but he's just not worth using unless you want to shake up a run with different spells/more difficulty

Don't ignore the item creation. You can beat the game without it for sure, but there's so many items in this game, and you can end up with some really interesting items. One of the super specialties can even affect your ending, though it may be through use of the items and not the specialty, I can't remember off the top of my head

You may or may not have noticed moves can change when you get a high proficiency in them. This is almost universally a good thing, but Head Splitter on Claude actually gets worse when it changes, at least imo. I would save it for bosses rather than spamming it while leveling, the second form of it causes it to bounce off of enemies fairly commonly

This game is fucking awesome, everywhere I go I want to explore and talk to everyone where in a lot of RPG games I just want to get shit done. The atmosphere this game creates is unlike any other game I've ever played. I'm glad I started with this over Elemental Gearbolt (which I'll get to later)

Funny story about that place.

You won't get stuck as an adult on the first continent, but on Universe that's not a bad place to power level early.

Portraits have no use as far as I remember, they're either just the picture (You can make them with Art while trying to make the paintings that have effects) or they affect friendship/romance levels. I wouldn't worry about any of that right now though, that's just to do with the ending.

My party for not steamrolling is 2 fighter 1 mage + Rena. If you don't mind waiting through mage casting animations I find it the funnest, switching to 3 fighter if something's too hard. You switch characters in combat using the circle button. If you're doing a fight that's a little harder, I would switch to Celine right at the start, cast a spell like Ray or Starlight that hits everyone, then switch back to Claude/whatever KM user you enjoy using. Once you can afford to stock up on MP restoration items, spam killer moves to your heart's content if it'll win the fight faster, but most of the game X attacking still has its uses.

Also something I forgot to mention is don't spend any SP at all until you unlock the skill Perseverence. It reduces the cost of all the other skills, max that before anything.

Yeah, as far as enemies go they're bottom feeder tier. Though at the same time, they're only significantly useful on Universe (Maybe the second difficulty, I skipped over it). Grinding there would save a lot of time going through Cross Cave and Mars Forest. I wish I would've thought to do it on my current run.

You buy skills in towns, there's buildings that have 3 robed guys in it and the green guy sells the skills. Talk to him and buy every new set you find. Perseverance is in the first or second continent. You go to the second continent pretty early on, so you're not far from it regardless.

White skills affect stats and make you learn the item creations, while green skills are in combat skills. Some of those aren't very good though, off the top of my head flip and strong blow are very shitty. I'd get stat boosting skills and gale for priority after maxing perseverance, the increased movement speed in battle helps a lot, especially with slow casters like Celine.

If you do art at all with canvas', you'll get shitload of portraits. I would sell the Rena portrait and get that dosh.

I prefer the PS1 version, but that's largely due to nostalgia for the voices. I only played the PSP version for a bit, didn't remember having anything against it though I definitely preferred the character portraits from PS1. Rena in the PSP version looks like she's 12. I wouldn't switch over, but its probably worth a playthrough on it just to see the differences after you've beaten it.
