My mom keeps on telling me I should sell my SNES because I could make money on it. People overestimate the prices of these things. It'd probably give me less than $50, not $200.

By the way, it's only safe because the games are so bad. Literally everything's on par.with Pac-Man and ET. The prices have been stagnant, because decreasing supply and decreasing demand have cancelled each other out, so don't even bother speculating. Trust me.

It's the differences between thrift shopping and "vintage" clothing shopping.

Shit that's nothing and hardly the start of it. Any decent game is going to cost you the price of the console itself. And that's just loose carts. $30 a controller for dc, saturn, snes.
>>
>>3534749
I guess I need to spell it out. It was 1992.
OP is crying about paying the cost of a romantic dinner for two at Applebee's for a console. We paid the cost of a car or a months rent. OP is a whiny little bitch who deserves to spend eternity in hell emulating on a Raspberry Pi 1.
>>
>>3534768
Back in 99 when snes emulation first became a thing I started emulating games I couldn't convince my parents to buy me (RPGs mostly because they were so expensive). I got really into Chrono Trigger, EVO and Harvest Moon in particular.

I considered buying copies of those three games but decided the $20-30 most places wanted for them used were outrageous (I even remember Chrono Trigger being like $50 used well into the 6th gen). I eventually caved and bought Chrono Trigger because it was my absolute favorite SNES game but to this day I still regret not picking up EVO and Harvest Moon before the prices got stupid.

They did everything they could to try and drag me in front row center into their deranged mess.

They practically went out of their way to keep people who could actually use the "junk" they had, ie us, from reasonably obtaining some of it. That's junk by their own judgement (they were upset that they couldn't just stroll into IT productivity with /vr/-grade gear).

And every time I gave any insight on how things should be done or said anything reflective of technical knowledge, they pounced on me expecting major developments for them.
>>
>>3534941
Actually, there were normoids there. There was an ultra-normoid, which I guess seems kind of similar to oversocialized. The proper social justice tools there were more depressive sorts, leaning more towards the bottom of the group.

They weren't all that mindful of rich versus poor, much more focussed on some sort of special personal notion of "technologically blessed" or something like that.

I went to an e-waste recycling group to get antiquated tech gear to fumble around with. They were very deeply against cooperating with people like us. Who they envisioned themselves as "on side with" was "underprivileged" people in desperate need of tech, people that they could save with old tech refuse.

So, they pulled all sorts of shit. I don't mean specifically against me, they just did everything scummy to uplift themselves, because they had a cause. And it kept spiralling and got really, convolutedly nasty and sickening.

I volunteer at a co-op that recycles bikes, volunteers keep the best stuff for themselves and get angry/confrontational at whoever they think is taking a unfair share.

People in these places want to impress people with how smart/generous they are and fellatiate themselves. They don't do it for people like you who know what they are doing and probably have a couple of bucks to throw towards your hobby.

Besides, you need high horsed SWJ's for this kind of thing to work, you'd get shit donations with a for-neckbeards-by-neckbeards organization.

At my place the hobbyists who consistently take stuff without volunteering all shoot the shit, compliment the volunteers, don't verbally disagree with the SWJ's, and offer to occasionally help with small tasks. Try that or just be content buying cheap shit online and posting greentexts about normies.

>Try that or just be content buying cheap shit online and posting greentexts about normies.

With all due respect and more, fuck that course of action with a cactus!

I don't know, I'd probably have to resort to getting something like an 86duinno or such for starters.

That group was not at all content to stick to operating within its place. They were building up their shtick, establishing themselves as the tech morality experts for the perceived community. So they were seriously into shoving any "right-headed" tech thing to others.

Well, with that aggressive course of theirs, inevitably we ended up fighting. And, in the more normal tech circles they were salivating over so hard, a small vocal subset who apparently liked having convenient conscience detergent at hand intensely took their side. So, now, feeling extremely unwelcome, I've ended up hugely cut from social outlets. It must be affecting me mentally, like others who were in the SJW recycling group.

And this was their plan all along, they even would say it, "You're part of our community! We are *the* proper community here! You're part of ours!!!"

glad I picked up all my old consoles 10+years ago before people cared about them...

Atari 2600
Genesis model 1
Game Gear
Sega Nomad
$5 each at a swap meet

Most games for these... even the super popular expensive ones today were under $10 back then

Dreamcast
$15

PS2
$2, with all cables and two controllers
(probably my best score price wise)

Most expensive was my 3do... paid around $50 for it in original box and about 10 games.

Sucks for people just getting into the hobby now for sure...

But that's wrong. That might be the case for you but certainly not everyone. I never even touched a 2600 until maybe 3 or 4 years ago, and I was in my mid 20s by that point. The games are enjoyable if you like early 80s arcade games. If you need to have your games with an ending and a narrative of some sort then you aren't going to enjoy most 2nd gen games cuz they're pretty much all score attacks. And I say this as someone who's first and favorite console is NES. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it trash, you just have trash opinions and think the only way to enjoy games is the way that you do.

>PRICES REALISTICALLY MEET THE DEMAND AND SCARCITY [the games] GO FOR

So you have an accurate representation of the amount of games in your area and demand for them, then? Because I don't think you want to admit that you're guessing on the general consensus, which is hardly accurate beyond broad strokes.

Not to mention your behaviour has justified whatever alternative the customer chooses, considering most people don't like feeling they're being taken advantage of (assuming they're smart enough to notice). You obviously pander to ignorant children and pretend you're justified because it's a free market.
>>
>>3538130
Because the 2600 actually has a pretty good amount of exclusives that you aren't going to find anywhere else. Stuff like frankenstein's monster and the towering inferno didn't get arcade releases or ports to any other system. Also bringing up pac man to shittalk the 2600 is kind of pointless since ms pac man and jr pac man both got it right the hardware.

the electronic waste recycling center you visited was ran by demented SJWs who meant for Shaniqua and Miguel to recieve the antique hardware (intended use unknown). They were disappointed when Sheldon showed up.
>>
>>3534491
JUST EMULATE
>>
>>3539492
NOPE.

There was no Sheldon. There was no Leonard either ... or maybe sort of, a bit of one, sort of a Leonard-Miguel. And a sort of a Sheldon-Miguel had dropped in advising from another group he was very busy with. There was no Howard either, only a prominently muscled Moish who was very business/administration oriented. There definitely was no Raj there, though some people acted as if there was. Oh, but there was an Amy! Hah, one Amy wasn't enough.

And they seemed a bit more interested in getting Pajeet the hardware - but more importantly, a solid dose of classes! Though they were quite happy to lavish the classes on Conor for some reason!

Actually, I guess there was a Sheldon that hopped in for a quick swig of conscience detergent. That was one of the guys that got defensive of the place.
>>
>>3539492
And basically, they were just dumb, ignorant fucks. They were totally content to send away mechanical keyboards for smelting, but if it turned out that Amy would want to opportunistically scoop one up, then, after a big what-the-fuck doubting that an old thing like that could be of such quality, there was another what-the-fuck about that someone was turning out unfairly fortunate for a moment.

As one example.
>>
>>3539631
If you were to go to a place like this again to get equipment how would you dress/speak/behave to feign being "technologically unfortunate"?

Conor is a 44 year old working class dude who needs a computer to check craigslist for jobs/housing, right?

>Bitching about $90 for an SNES

At the only non-chain game store near me, the SNES games you'd actually want (i.e, not Dickheel McFuckelstein's Golfing 1992) *start* at $100. Anything Square goes for $250. Not even in original box. They have these cases for them which are admittedly pretty slick looking, but you don't even know if the carts are repros.

That wouldn't have done that much good in that kind of case when they're into having standardised procedures for how to distribute or old hardware or rather make it available in a socially just manner(which ended up not distributing much), and instead it was the production end that was highly subjected to judgement calls and dueness-notions. It was much more of a case of not getting flagged as a suitable drone, so more on the end of avoiding looking technologically fortunate would have been stuff like not blurting out knowledge of other local tech groups, and not being naive towards out of place un-SJW types of people, who are due to have rather bizarre agendas to be involved with such a crowd.

And not receiving broken hardware when it's suppsed to be working, that was a big issue. And, on a related note, getting past the limitations of selection of stuff that was made available, which I guess was kind of neccessary because stuff did not get kept intact very well, but it was also related to a seeming urge to protect people from stumbling into nasty-tech-headaches by not distrinuting "below spec" systems.

Actually, the Connor did not even seem working class entirely, more like a strange mix of impoverished and middle class attitudes. And was Irish.
>>
>>3542197
With every single post you make I just get more confused. Some SJW used computer store won't sell things to you if you know anything about how they actually work? Are you that same person who was going on about how some guys made you a Windows 98 box and then thought you were their gateway to some super secret OG vintage computer inner circle? Because your posts are the same kind of incomprehensible.

no psu and one of those $2.50 aftermarket controllers, but did throw in 3 games (but were crap games)

The SNES mini and 1chip are becoming sought after and they're at about $70-90, more if they have psu's or controllers.

See, that's half your problem right the there. Canadian prices for anything retro gaming have been ridiculous the last few years.

>more confused
Well, I guess that's not *too* surprising, for one I didn't seem to have come up with a proper answer to the last question...

Cause, actually, there was a quite a bit I could have done to guard against being pounced on. Like not revealing having an understanding the organization's blueprint during first week I was there. Or having been strongly aware of common political sentiments in my region.

Another better thing to have done would have been opportunistically disparaging them for inventory waste - for having so much parts, not making use of it, letting stuff get damaged with poor storage methods, while keeping my mouth shut about all other things, and instead just talking behind their back about them pissing on all their other mission goals except resource-equalizing

>if you know anything about how they actually work?
Well, they did not want to distribute pieces of hardware I knew about well, largely because they had certain notions of proper things to be done with it, like, as you mentioned, "needing a computer to check craigslist for jobs/housing". Which in the end they got scoffed at, got told ... told that there's enough prefered places for basic computing access.

>won't sell things
They did seem to want to sell some stuff, like video cards for a thirdth the price of a whole system. On the other hand, they refused to sell cases due to not wanting to attract the supposed wrong crowd. And they didn't like letting too much stuff out because then, their precious members would be tinkering more with computers at home instead of over there.

But it was really much more about the other side, about shit they pulled to coerce volunteering.

>Are you that same person
Nope, that was not me.

Yeah, I say things in a weird way. That's yet another aspect of what pissed me off, that those guys that talk in dudely ways zeroed in on me. Which also begs the question why guys that talk in a dudely way get so interested in tech in the first place.

Shut the fuck up! What, you think I should be willing to put up with anything for the sake of retrovidya? You think I owe it to be a stallmanized /g/-drone for those with an exploitation scheme craving such suckers? You think I should be a /robot putting up with that, and valuing having other robots around when those robots let themselves get shoved around by slimeballs? You think I should be a /ck/ fatass and be happy if there's pizza somewhere, like all the tools and bottom feeders there? You think I owe it to be an /int/ bitch and crave to shove "the united future" down everyone's throats? You think I need to be a /soc/ bitch and embrace whatever as long as there's who bless me with exposure to their shit eating grin bedazzled mugs? You think I need to be linkedin psychopath out to sanctify whatever scam? You think I need to be a facebook cunt, in everyone's face? You think I need to be a reddit bitch, getting shunted to there where the nerdish are "needed" in the most effective way? You think I need to be a gay-church tool, doing the bidding of those monsters because it's a slick toss up of traditional and modern shit?

SNES is my cutoff.

You can only play Mario and Castlevania and TMNT and Zelda so much before you get tired of the blocky physics and movement before the superior sequels made everything more fluid and improved

Going by that bubble logic, it's no wonder SNES is what it is now. Mario Kart is great, Yoshis Island is great, Street Fighter is great etc etc

PAL Dreamcasts tend to be more expensive than NTSC ones because Dreamcast wasn't a successful in EU as it was in the states. That means that there are less PAL Dreamcasts in general, and obviously new ones are not made anymroe.

I have to say, I am also confused reading your story, but incredibly intrigued

I want to find a place like that and experience it for myself, to get a real taste

Are you still affiliated with them and have you burned your bridges yet?

I am legitimately "underprivileged" enough to pull the innocent card, where was this and would you be interested in me acting as a proxy?
>>
>>3552713
Hmm, looks like you really are confused. It's not anything exclusive at all, quite the opposite, they were awfully hungry for participants.

I haven't really burned bridges. Maybe I even could conceivably check it out again to see how the part stream has changed. Though I'd expect they wouldn't be keeping something like the same interesting CRT supply anymore. They seem to have been affected by space tightening.

In fact, the people there that messed with me most markedly probably crashed out particularly hard.

Though really, the underprivileged thing isn't that concrete. Just being into /vr/ should have a very similar effect, maybe even more - actually having a use for old computers. See, that makes it possible for a group like that to conceive that they're "doing it for you".

I do think I'd likely be interested in focussing on that in a way again.

A lot of those games are ones we've played later on among other simple non-boxed games, so those versions would have been compared to newer stuff, so it's quite fair if people regard the original versions of those highly.
