This game did everything well except combat and plot. The plot in jRPG is hardly interesting, but FF and DQ at least gave you a big world to explore, whereas here you have no space for such activities. And with combat, you win literally by holding one button down.

even to this day, this game still amazes me graphically. i like the combat, but it's not THAT great.
imo, beyond oasis has the best combat of any 2d action-rpg/action-adventure game to date

And the overall level design. Which is pretty much everything. Graphics and sound are the only thing going for this series.

If you have a turbo controller, maybe. But this doesn't work for boss fights.

The music in the SD games is really great too.
