How is it possible that this nearly 20 year old trumps out every other game ever created?

Because of Ivan Dolvich
As far as this board is concerned there haven't any games been produced since then.

Because it's a strategy game with a good interface.

In my opinion there is one good, but often overlooked reason that this gem is so fondly remembered; Sirtech guys did all that was possible at the time to give the player an illusion of really commanding a merc outfit. From using military grade laptop to manage staff and finances down to giving all characters quirks, dislikes and so on, that need to be taken into consideration to build functional team. No other game of this type ever achieved similar potential for player personal investment.
how do I move my units on the map screen
X-COM vs. Jagged Alliance 2
Who wins?

Between Jagged Alliance 2 and any retro X-Com, I'd say JA2 wins in sheer combat satisfaction.
JA2 vs the new XCOMs though, I can't say because I never played 2 in an Ironman way like I did with XCOM 1 and especially 2, might be a draw.

H opens up a contextual help window

From the strategic screen, form your mercs into a squad, then move to a sector. Then unpause time to get them to begin travel. From the battlefield, move your squad to a map edge, then click on the edge to bring up a leave sector dialog box.

1.13 is an abortion. vanilla is far better
Do you guys hire the top tier A.I.M. mercs when you finally got enough mines?
Like Gus, Magic, Scully, those guys, or do you just use the lower tier ones all the way through as you level them?
Curious because I would only hire Lynx and parter him up with Ira and play like that until I had cash for top tier guys, one at a time of course.

I like hiring gus going into meduna. hes an absolute fucking destroyer with the heavy weapons trait, and his experience level makes him an interrupt machine

What's so bad about 1.13?
>>3473848
it breaks the original game balance
it's still fine as it is, and you not only can but are even supposed to tweak it

I thought it was a cool way to play the game a few more times after a long, 10 year break.
