Is there sometihng you like more in 8-bit platforms than in 16-bit platforms?
They tend to have more interesting and exploitable glitches.

There isn't much difference except 8bit are usually more simplistic. I guess that's a good thing if you prefer a more straightforward experience.

Not really.
If I had to make something up, they're more "blocky." Like they lack slopes like Sonic or Yoshi's Island have in spades. More emphasis on platforming than running.

SMB2 has my favorite of the Mario sprites for sure.

kys

I also like SMB2 sprites best

i prefer the aesthetics of the 1980s to the 1990s so that's one thing
Some late NES games like Little Samson and Moon Crystal animate extremely smoothly and fluidly, I can't think of any SNES games that can match them in that regard

Mario World's Mario sprite was so nicely refined.
The little touches like the hat lifting off on descents and his jutting boots just were never outmatched.
Yoshi's Island was great too but it just looks like a weird shader nowadays.
