I sometimes do that if it's a game I know well. I've played Doom 1 and 2 without saves (except when taking a break, no reloading) but I don't often go that route for many other games or custom wads.

I die on purpose at the start of each level to play the levels the way they are designed for.

Some mods, the levels are long as fuck. I ain't spending another 10 minutes doing all that fucking shit again.
I try to only save when im just about to get a keycard, so it feels more like a checkpoint than a quicksave
