i have a sudden urge to play Flashback. i remember i played it on my genesis back in the days. which version would you say was the best version?
>>
I was playing its sequel, Fade to Black, right now.
>>
Snes has slowdowns, so not that one.
>>
C64
>>
>>3434887
Probably the Amiga original. Otherwise Megadrive. Avoid the SNES port.
>>
>>3434887

iOS had a pretty good port so presumably Andriod too.
>>
Get REminiscence and play it on PC.
>>
Great game. One of my favourite on the megadrive. So much good backgrounds
>>
>>3434887
Amiga version.
>>
I played the Genesis port and assumed it was identical to the PC version, but it turned out some cutscenes on PC have extra scenes in them. I'm talking of course about the floppy version with original style, not the CD-ROM cutscenes. Compare:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcfN2uYyUYU

Amiga doesn't have those extras too btw.
>>
>>3435127
The Amiga doesn't have those extra scenes because the game was developed for the Amiga and ported to other systems later.
>>
>>3435137
I am well aware of that. I added the Amiga remark so that one would not assume it's the cartridge version that is abriged from the original, but rather that it's the extras the PC port got.
>>
>>3434906
Well, don't

I love this game; gridsnap platformers should really make a comeback

Just in case anyone feels like playing more of these games. Probably not, but well, it's there if you want to.
>>
>>3435013
The amiga version has the weakest graphics it seems.
>>
>>3435308
It has a better color palette than the Genesis version, and no shitty slow downs like the SNES version. The DOS version might beat it, but the music in the non CD DOS version is way shittier than the Amiga version. The CD DOS version should be the best of both world, but it has, for some stupid reason, all new cutscenes that look like complete garbage.
>>
Amiga for music
PC-DOS for overall
Sega CD for control
>>
>>3434906
Wait. There's a sequel to Flashback?

The Remake was bloody atrocious too.

>>3437695
Yes, but >>3436102 is just fanart. With the remake they actually managed to turn one of the most visually recognizable games ever into a bland zeitgeisty mess
>>
>>3437789
>handholding UI everywhere
>HD and yet so zoomed in (if they zoom in just for the interaction it's not better but another problem)
> looks actually less clear than the original
>what the fuck is that d-pad-like space for even

If this is the actual remake, consider my curiosity sated. "Bland zeitgeisty mess" is well said.
>>
>>3435332
With REminiscence you get the DOS game with the Amiga music.

Perfect. Thank the lord for open source remakes.
>>
Amiga 1200, the music alone is still stuck in my head to this day. Also, the floppy drive clicking away quietly to itself just added tension
>>
>>3437837
They change the plot and shoehorn a love interest in too. Also a hoverbike race.

And the guy who created it said this was the definitive version of the game he would have made back on the Amigo if he could.

Strangely though, New Washington is still a fucking fantasic level.
>>
>>3435284
Damn nice, didn't know about a few games there. Time to play. Thank you!

>>3439053
Well, there was a token LI in that little comic book that came bundled with the original game (and a hoverbike tease in the intro) so I guess it's fair enough
>>
>>3436031
Its not that bad.

I remember enjoying it enough that I actually beat it back in the day.
>>
>>3437837
Zoomed in is why I couldnt play that sonic generations game.

Pisses me off when devs do that.
>>
>>3437837
>>3440062

I just remembered: didn't (some versions?) of the original game entered a zoomed-in view at some points? I can't remember what triggered that though
>>
>>3437789
Didn't the original creator work on it? How did it go so wrong? Also why is the playable original game viewed in some shitty cabinet without the usual resolution.
>>
>>3435332
Sega CD got a great soundtrack as well.

>>
>>3443095
This is so good. Thank you for posting it.
>>
>>3443095
I got REminisce up and running. Any idea if I can add these songs in so they play naturally?
>>
>>3444349
The site mentions support for Amiga mods and Sega CD voice files, but nothing more. So, probably not. The other tracks aren't nearly as good as the Title Theme anyway.
>>
There was one guy when /vr/ first started who kept telling everyone the Amiga port of any game was the best objectively, so the Amiga version I guess

Amigafag here. The Amiga version has great music, and is the original, but the graphics are objectively inferior. Get REminiscence engine combine amiga music files with DOS graphics
>>
>>3446932
It's not a port. It was literally made for the Amiga.
>>
>>3444349
>>3444708
Dude named Rich Douglas who's a vg composer did a really great remix of the intro / title music / end theme on OCRemix that syncs up to the DOS intro pretty well from this post.

Were the They-Live-type Glasses actually used in the game at all, or were they just a backstory thing? Kind of a missed opportunity

Play the Amiga version Timmy!
>>
>>3441385
Pissed me off that you had to get it on that Ubisoft exclusive client to play it which nobody uses for anything. The game itself didn't seem horrid, though.
>>
I felt an urge to play this recently
but I forgot I traded it for Another World in school.

was very disappointed
