MMX is my favorite of the X series. 2 is probably my favorite out of the classics, but 3 is really close.

It's actually less than that. Rockman Complete Works is a port, Mega Man Powered Up is a remake. Legacy Collection is just emulation.

MM3. it has Needleman and Shadowman, some two of the hardest megabuster only bosses in MM. Doc (imperfectly) adds MM2 bosses. The music and graphics are fantastic. Introduced slide and Rush.

MM10. Maybe not retro, but it easily could have been. Once again the music and graphics are great. The boss design is fun. The challenge is right where it needs to be. The slide may have been cut, but the game was designed around that. The level layouts are really fantastic, especially if you know the game well (rarely have to kill things). It's got 'no helmet' hard mode (double damage). And finally the end has some good humor.

Mega Man X3. Sorry to fans of the originals, but the X series is a god damn blast and they haven't figured out how to make good Mega Man games since. The first zero game for GBA was decent, though.
