I've been replaying all the sonic games for mania on wii using retroarch and I noticed frame rate drops. Has sonic always been this choppy before or is it because I'm using a micro sd card? Especially pic related.

Game runs smooth, your setup is shit
>>
>>3392379
What's the problem then is the wii not strong enough to run it at full speed?
>>
I can't say if your setup makes the games choppier than original hardware or not, but Sonic CD does have a bit of slowdown as I recall playing on my Sega CD. I think Sonic CD goes for like 5 bucks on Steam if you want to play it at a consistent 60 fps.
>>
>>3392372
Are you using emulators?
>>
>on wii using retroarch
why do mongoloids insist on emulating on homebrew consoles?
there's absolutely no reason for it, every single console homebrew emulator is worse than the equivalent emulator on a PC
it'd be one thing if you wanted portability, but that doesn't apply to a Wii
>b-but i like playing games on my TV!
you can hook your computer up to a TV too
>>
>>3392372
Sonic 2 definitely has slowdown quite a bit, most often when you drop too many rings, and when there are way too many sprites on screen in general. I think Mystic Cave has it happen a few times, and the tubes in Chemical Plant are choppy as shit.

Sonic CD runs at 30fps half the time. Stardust Speedway in particular is choppy as hell.

Sonic 1 has the same problem. The slowdown starts after losing something between 30-50 rings.

If I remember well, Labyrinth Zone has some hiccups here and there too.
>>
Use Genesis Plus GX

>>3393542
Wii is actually worth emulating on though because native 240p.
>>
If you have a wii and want to play classic sonic games just get the sonic mega collection and sonic gems collection. :)
>>
>>3393939

Sonic CD on gems collection isn't recommended, it's based on the old PC version which has extra load screens, and also has some graphic glitches.

keep in mind most people just use what the have at the moment

Retroarch lost a lot of blast processing post-1.0.0.2 and is essentially worthless for Sega after that point. Use Genesis Plus GX or get a legacy copy of Retroarch.
>>
Play the mobile ports

The core retroarch uses IS Genisis Plus GX
>>
hijacking this thread, but what is the best pc emulator for sega cd? The wiki doesn't really help on this, unlike other consoles where it's pretty clear which one to take

Pick one

Gens

This is correct. Sonic CD running on real Sega CD hardware is really, really choppy. Moreso than any other Genesis Sonic game for whatever reason. Most older emulators and the PC ports naturally don't have this problem, but I imagine Retroarch will, due to accuracy.

So I finally did some some good research turns out that genesis plus gx is soo accurate that it's puts back the lag you would experience if you play on the original hardware you know because we needed the slowdown and lags to get the true experience of 1993.

While it may not be the case for Sonic there are some games where increasing the framerate can royally fuck with how it works.
