that game made me pissed off when i rented it from blockbuster as a kid. I thought it sucked and was really unnecessarily hard... I wonder if i replay it nowadays will i be able to actually appreciate it.

Meh. I think the hate for the game, while somewhat half justified, is kinda overblown as well. Some of the ideas it presents are rather interesting, though it's still a great shame a lot was cut out from the final version.

I really loved the game. Even as a kid I thought it was really charming and the music is awesome. When I finally got myself a memory card and was able to actually play the game more than a couple hours and losing data, I wound up really liking the later towns and the huge-ass world map. Even the massive desert was rewarding with that secret temple and shit.

Fortunately someone over on Romhacking said he was translating the rest of the ending from the JP version, so that's kinda cool.

I remember the ice cave was bullshit I think i got lost multiple times because the camera flips 360 degrees when you finish a battle. ALSO the encounter rate in Quest 64 is too dam high.
