Not really. KoF'98 is better for several reasons:

—not having a broken move cancel system

—hopping/A+B/C+D mechanics

—much better balance

—not trying this hard to be like competitors

—actually playable grapplers

—more move types like proximity unblockables etc.

Garou has 1 advantage: amazing graphics. As for the rest, KoF'98 takes the crown in everything.

Played the Dreamcast version. I can say it's very good.

I still think that last blade 2 is the best SNK fighting game.
The counter system is pretty fun, and the music is great too.

98 is probably better but 02 garou and last blade 2 are definitely up there.

Garou and last blade are probably the best artistically but 98 and last blade are balanced better for competition

Snk games in general arent really balanced for competition so i think looking at them artistically is more fair and on topic

Garou has the best cast of any fighter possibly ever. Sf3 has some better mechanics and is way higher performance thanks to cps3 being an actual modern arcade board (garou is incredible despite being on a 10 year old board) but has so many shitty and lame characters. Every character except kevin in garou is cool as fuck.

It's good, but it's no candle to King of Fighters. The small roster and lack of team play hurts it in the end.

Also I get why they made all the desperations so easy to pull off, but it makes it feel like a weird casual version of a real SNK fighter. That combined with the small roster makes the whole thing seem more like a beginner's game than a serious fighter.

Last Blade 2 is excellent. Also falls a little short due to scope, but I would agree that it's a better contender for SNK's best non-KoF fighting game.

Disagree. Jenet and Rock are cool, but the Kim kids are lame, and Freeman is ultra lame. It's middle of the road for SNK characters. Not bad, but not amazing either.
