Same here i ordered two of them and one of them doesn't even turn on anymore and that was only after a week.

The screen has wrong aspect ratio and the pixels on screen aren't 1:1 with the LCD grid.

The buttons don't look too good either. I can understand wanting one for the backlight but really you're better off getting a gba.

A lot of the people recommend the AGS-101 GBA SP because it's backlit (also more expensive) and I do have one, however I only prefer it for the GBA games. The GBC colors look too saturated on it so I just play GBC games on my frontlit SP instead.
However the the image size for gb games doesn't cover the whole screen so you'll get a smaller picture. There a mode that only stretches horizontally though, for some reason.

Fucking hell, I got one in the mail a week or so ago. Played for around 2 hours, started freezing up during games and now only the backlight works. Really a shame.

Well considering it was only $20 fucking dollars and most of the games I've played work flawlessly (actually, don't recall any games not working), I'd say it's a heck of a deal.
The aspect ratio is known to be a bit off, but after a while you don't even notice it.

The only thing better is the AGS-101/modded AGB-001, but for the GBC form factor the GB Boy Colour is the best you're gonna get.

Warning: Backlit SPs are 50hz, which causes slowdown and ghosting.

I dont have any pokemon games but mine works fine outside of D-pad being shit(kinda fixable but its still crap) and the speaker died(speaker itself works, but for some reason the system just doesn't output any audio to it with the original or replacement speaker), but with headphones audio is good.

The frontlight SP is good and cheap, but you do need to buy an adapter if you want to use headphones though.

you can only front light a og gba. and you have to use loca to make it any good. Unfortunately it's easy to get bubbles in it that will light up like miniature suns when the light is on. if it does work out good though you can play in good lighting with the light off and backlight in low light conditions, I prefer it to the 101 screen mod as you can still play in sunlight.

I have one of these and never gave me any trouble. The only complaint I have of its performance is how the games are slightly stretched horizontally.

Sadly it broke down after about 2 months of use. First the power switch broke off, so I couldn't turn it off besides removing the batteries. Then it would frequently freeze after about a minute of playing. Finally it just died altogether.

So... really it was a fantastic piece of hardware, except for the power switch breaking from simply flicking it. It was incredibly cheap though so I wasn't mad. Now I play on a black GBA SP which has a backlight but the screen is nowhere as clear as the GB Boy's.

Also why people say SGB1 being little bit faster is bad thing? For one for most part its barely noticeable, plus it makes most of slow-ass GB games more playable.

Unless one of those games is ultra rare, that is not a good deal at all, you can get a japanese GBC (no region locking on GBC) on constant auctions for $10-$15.
