Original early japanese models.
>>

Why does that PS fat pad lack the analog sticks, is it broken?

That's not the only difference. Early japanese PS pads were smaller. the cones on the western ones were larger.
>>
>>3370323
D pad was pretty standard until the N64 came out and then Sony knew they had to compete so they brough out the dualshock controller.
>>
>>3370383

dualshock also added vibration, original PS pad didn't have anything like that.
>>
>>3370392
>>3370383
wow the ps1 fat lacked so many things, makes me love my ps1 slim even more
>>
>>3370398
If you have the early models, original PS1 had great sound ports for stereo hookups though. It replaced CD players for some people the way PS2 replaced DVD players and PS3 replaced BR players. Sony did pretty well to keep that pattern.

Yep, the SCPH-1001 models.

>>3370398
You can still use dualshock on the older PS though.

FFS, it could have been perfect for taking around a bro's house for some LAN shit.

The old school dualshock model. Love it to bits, have one right here. The only console I'd choose if I could only pick one.
>>
>>3370367
I hear this all the time but I've yet to see definitive proof. A side-by-side comparison would be great.

top right controller is dual analog which came out before the dual shock.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_Analog_Controller

>The hand grips are 3⁄5 inch (1.5 cm) longer than the original controller and the later DualShock controller. The body of the controller is also wider, spacing the pads slightly farther apart. This wider controller body has been retained on the DualShock and all later PlayStation controllers.
>>
>>3371436
>>3371436
Not a fair comparison - those are dual shock, dual analog and the original controller.
It's being implied that the Japanese original controller is smaller than the US original controller, right?

And here's the original US controller. Not exactly a side by side, but you can see the size difference.

Yes I noticed, hence why I'm posting these instead.

Now I see - thank you!

Where??

Figured I'd ask here instead of make a new thread

Anyone remember those thumbstick addons in weird goofy shapes that tried to explain what they were good for? They were sold by Pelican and one was a "shovel"

I found a side-by-side of the shells.

The smaller SCPH-1010 was only supplied with the original JP launch consoles and debugger units, and sold separately for a couple of months. By the time Playstation was released in other markets they had switched to the larger 1080 design we're all familiar with.

This makes them pretty rare now. Much rarer than the SCPH-1180 Dual Analog pad which preceded the first Dual Shock for a short time.

Fun fact: The 1010 also has a very short cord - ~3ft - and no ferrite bead at the connector.
>>
>>3370454
>the SCPH-1001
SCPH-1000 as well.
>>
>>3373639
Don't forget the euro 1002 and the asia-exclusive 5903 vcd capable model
>>
>>3371445

Those were the best but they were insanely expensive.
>>
>>3374940
Along with the fact there's better dev hardware you can delve into making homebrews with out there nowadays.
>>
psone, oem screen, white controller and memory card, car adapter.
>>
What model should I get? I'd like to have the better RGB-video used by the PSOne and later fat versions, but I'd also like to have the parallel port so I can use PSIO. Is there any model that has both? Preferably a Japanese one, if you live in Europe they're cheaper to get than American counterparts for shipping reasons.
>>
>>3370437
A lot of people harp on about the DAC in the original PS1 runs, but it's pretty shit by today's standards. The music in PS1 games is usually pretty simple MIDI stuff that doesn't gain much from a good DAC.
>>
>>3373632

Another difference is that the original JP pads had a shorter cable.
>>
>>3375193
That's common I think, with Japanese people sitting so close to the TV.
>>
>>3375101
>they're cheaper to get than American counterparts for shipping reasons
This so much. It's pretty much same distance, but us shipping is always expensive for some reason.
>>
>>3375225
yeah, the famicom has really short cables and even super famicom controllers have much shorter cables than either US or EU super nintendo controllers.

Please note the fun fact at the end of post >>3373632

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for one to add to the collection
>>
>>3375762

Sorry, didn't read the full post.

I casually have one. I bought my ps1 from a store in 1996, and I'm not sure but I guess it was a japanese model, because I got that pad.
