What's the best way to emulate Abe's Oddysee - and pre-rendered games in general - so that it doesn't look like shit?
Presumably on some sort of VGA monitor

You don't. Emulation is shit
You set up RetroArch, download the beetle/mednafen PSX core and put on your CRT autismo shader of choice.
In a few years do the same but replace core with rustation.

Original hardware.

The PC version on GOG and Steam worked just fine for me.
>>3329698
what do you consider shit looking?
doesn't matter if you emulate or use real hard, the most important thing is a CRT screen.
These games will not look good upscaled on HD screens. Although this is true for most /vr/ stuff, but especially pre-rendered games.

Even got it for free!
Play the PC version on steam/GoG

Is you have to use a non crt screen though, I recommend a light scanlines filter combines with either a bilinear filter or a pixel bloom filter.

With the original hardware on a CRT screen

would be one hell of a trick to emulate the game on a PS
>>3331209
There's a playstation emulator that runs on playstation? Why would someone even make something like that?

>Why would someone even make something like that?
same reason any piece of software would be made, because someone wants to.
Would be technically impossible though. Emulation includes some overhead in the translation layer. Emulating a system on itself only works on a conceptual level. You can not reach native performance, due to the overhead.

Basically this.

What if you overclocked the system? Do you think emubabies would play PS1 games on original hardware if they could emulate with filters and save states?
