Hey /vr/ I really wanna set up an emulation station in my living room for retro games since me and my roommates don't watch TV often, but wanted to know if there's any sort of possible set up that would allow my roms to go into a 'demo play' kinda mode when no one's been playing for a while? I want it to have an arcade system kinda feel where (in a perfect set up) it would randomly demo-play games but simply picking up a controller and pressing a button would cut to the games list and allow for quick pick-up-and-play.
Is anything like this remotely possible outside of exclusively mame games?
Lots of front ends will auto play a recorded video. Download from YouTube.

I mean, I guess if that's the only way to do it then so be it, downloaded video seems kinda weak though.

You're welcome OP
The Coinops frontend for the OG X-box does this. Well, it has a pre-recorded video of each game it cycles through anyway. It's a bit outdated now though, you can probably find something on the PC that works similarly.

I have an old Xbox I've wanted to do something with, was this straightforward to set up?
