The problem with Ryu is they don't really touch on his wandering warrior/hobo fighter personality that often.

I think his best incarnation is in 3S where he's carrying around his duffle bag at all times and just drops it on the ground at the start of a match because he happened to wander into a fight.

They also don't really mention the fact that his best friend is a billionaire who just airdrops him supplies every few months.

That said, SF2: The Animated Movie is actually pretty damn good. Probably the best feature length adaptation of anything Street Fighter. Shame it's not really canon.

There's plenty, SF is just awful about it. Usually you get a bunch of random cinematics then only find out if they're canon when the next game comes out.

In more recent years we've gotten the udon comics which are like 99% canon and the best thing to happen to the story.

Maybe SFV will shed some light on stuff as that game takes place between 2, 4 and 3 (third strike I believe is still the latest game chronologically)
