Why is the Genesis Shadowrun so overrated? I mean it's a decent game, but it's nowhere near as atmospheric or thought out as the SNES game.

Because WRPG fans will bend over backwards to fellate any kind of sandbox RPG, no matter how limited and repetitive they are. They're wildly invested in their east vs west wars and their ideas about "freedom" in games to the point that they would rather grind the same handful of quests over and over because it's the only actual way to advance without realizing that in some ways it ultimately MORE restrictive than the "on-rails" style of story-based JRPG they've been duped into hating on principle.
