Why do we still use dinosaur consoles and computers 20-40 years after their manufacture? Is it nostalgia for the 90's? Or something else entirely?

Arcades died.
Target audience changed.
Audience became casuals.
Video games went to shit.
>>

Because there are a lot of good games on them and I haven't played them all yet
>>

Because dosbox is ass

Not really. The OPL3 emulation has improved a lot and even though I own multiple retro PC rigs from 386 to Pentium III, I still find myself using it from time to time. It is by far the quickest and easiest way to play DOS games without worrying about freeing up EMS memory or editing CONFIG.SYS and all that other crap.

You should try applying power to those "multiple retro PC rigs". You'll be amazed the difference.

>without worrying about freeing up EMS memory or editing CONFIG.SYS and all that other crap.
>not having config.sys and autoexec.bat already configured with boot menus

Also the drivers and memory managers from Freedos are fucking genius. I'm running cdrom, mouse, caching, power/idle manager, long filename support, screen scrollback and doskey while keeping 626K conventional memory free.

A few games don't like Jemmex, but I have boot options for those.

Why do we read books?
why do we drive old cars?
Why do we watch old TV and film?
>>
>>3241952
The answer to the second two is because we're poor

DOSBox is good. Less of a pain than maintaining a real DOS system. Win9x is where you need real hardware.
>>
>>3243326
Sure it is sport. It let you play that game you saw on youtube. Meanwhile in the real world the grownups are doing things the right way.
>>
>>3243318

No it isn't. Old movies are better.
>>
Because its enjoyable
>>
>>3245592
Not really. You just watch garbage line Alien because you couldn't afford to see good modern movies like X-Men Days of Future Past.
