"I'm an old school gook killer boy, but I'd kill me a nigger if I got the chance!"

Holy shit, how the FUCK did they get this line into the game? I know it's based on an R-rated movie and this is before the ESRB, but just..wow.
>>
Okay.
>>
>>3236120
Just kind of shocked an 80's game had such adult lines like this. Plus first time playing through this game (love the movie) so I was taken aback you know?
>>
>>3236123
Shenmue is pretty infamous for this, one of the bosses shouts out "I'll fucking kill you!"

Calm down /pol/, the OP said nothing about being offended. He was just commenting on how times have changed and how lax censorship and social mores where back when.
>>
>>3236143
Censorship and social morals weren't lax then, it's just that people did not get offended over nothing and made a big deal of it.
>>
>>3236143

You have to go back
>>
>we have games where heads explode
>spines pulled out in 3D
>bone crunching massacres
>murder games played by 12 year olds
>who call each other the most horrible names online
>OP is taken aback by a racist slur

oh 2016..
>>
>>3236129
Bubsy 3D calls the boss a faggot after you beat him. I love games with this shit that flew under the radar.

Holy shit, how the FUCK did they get this line into the game? I know it's an established franchise and all, but just..wow.
>>

Sorry your thread got ruined by the anti-politics brigade.

As for your post, I'm honestly surprised Nintendo would let this slip. Was the game published by NoE? Maybe European standards weren't quite so tight.
>>

What about when GTA series got famous; Yeah there was controversy but people just slapped the "MA" rating and called it a day, because violence is natural.

But something like Rapelay or Battle Raper came out the WORLD got engaged in collective white knighting to stop the distribution of these games because "we must protect the wimmenz". From sexual violence only. Running blowing them up or beheading them like in GTA or Mortal Kombat is OK of course.

Hell GTA:SA's "hot coffee" scene drew more shit from mommy groups than the extreme violence
>>
>>3236127
stuff like that wasn't "acceptable" at the time either
>>
>>3236189
dont confuse "the world" with small groups of uninformed white people led on by soccer moms

Fricking Australia AND UK banned this game in their respective countries. Though not surprised, considering UK had a "no ninjas, no nunchucks" policy in the 90s and both countries have some of the shittiest weapons laws.

Living in Burgerland (or it's commonwealths) has it's advantages.

This thread reeks of shitty /tv/ memery. Anyway, what are some other examples of inappropriate movie licensed games?

Platoon is hard enough it's likely that kids wouldn't have progressed that far. It's actually Nintendo that you might be surprised at allowing that through if you didn't know how racist Japanese are.

OP is talking about the computer versions of Platoon though.
>>
This line was never in the game. You retards are getting played by a /tv/ meme.

You really think this line would fly back then? The 80's were not the 50's and most normal people would take offense to 'gook' and 'nigger'.
>>
>>3236104
>Holy shit, how the FUCK did they get this line into the game?

Who was gonna stop them? Home computers were, and still are, an open platform.

>You really think this line would fly back then?

Nobody would have cared, Doom was still like 5 years away so governments didn't give a fuck.

And nobody took games seriously back then, you mentioned you played video games and you'd get a "huh.." from most adults.

And this kinda stuff only happened on personal computers anyway, and personal computers (that means C64,ST,Amiga) were not moderated like Nintendo did with its stuff.

It was very much a wild west feel, two guys in a flat could make a game about a famous movie and suddenly they'd be a company.

And nobody would care if they'd put a gory pixely movie shot in the middle of a game.
the only people who'd care were the kids, that was the stuff that was discussed on the playgrounds.

Sure you had a couple early soccer moms who'd write a letter, but nobody took home computers seriously.

this gaming thing would never take off anyway!
>>
>>3236104
I'm pretty sure I had this for my speccy or maybe my ST
>>
>>3236104
Nobody played it.

Oh well shit. Computer games had basically no censorship whatsoever. Again let me refer everyone to pic related. Not like Platoon was out of line with its license material so who would have censored it?
>>
The NES version of Platoon is also garbage, quite surprising for a game done by the usually excellent Sunsoft.
>>
What the heck is an "old school gook killer"?

Someone who fought in WWII or Korea or something?
>>
Great job janitors. Deleting my posts questioning why would you delete a possible derailment of a blatant shitpost thread.
>>
>>3237413
Vietnam. Have you even seen the movie?
>>
>>3239325

No he means how could someone call himself an "old school" gook killer, when Vietnam was most likely his first time killing said "gooks".

He would have had to have killed "gooks" before.

So yeah, an American who first fought in Korea and then later in Vietnam would classify as such.
>>
>>3236104
sounds like something from a fighting game continue or game over screen...

I'm an old school gook killer boy, but I'd kill me a nigger if I got the chance!
>>
>>3239763
the term "gook" is used loosely for japs too so maybe thats why it is used there although incorrectly.

>>3239810

Somewhere in an alternate dimension humanity just learned to live with racism and we got it in games like its no big deal.
>>
If you didn't know, the term "gook" originated in the Korean War when GIs noticed that the locals would refer to them as "Mi-Gyuk" (Korean for "Americans") and they started joking that the Koreans were saying "Me gook".
>>
>>3239827
What do Japanese have to do with it? He's saying he killed Koreans and now he's killing Vietnamese.
>>
>>3236129
Video link or it didn't happen.

I'm not about to watch an entire long-ass longplay just to see if that scene exists.

I'll spoil it for you and say no, it didn't happen.

I had this game for my C64 back as a child.

Can't remember much but the underground tunnels were pretty cool at the time.
>>
>>3236189
Are you purposely this ignorant or did you happen to miss all the huge video game violence controversies just to claim that thatvsexual violence was the only thing games ever get criticized about?

And re: racial slurs : Vietnam games say "gook" pretty often, like Vietcong from 2004.

I think that would fly under the radar due to nobody playing Bubsy 3D.

>>3236189
Rapelay isn't even sexual violence, it's literally the characters roleplaying rape fantasies.
