Just pirated Deus Ex. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of all the stupid lag everywhere? Nearly froze my computer during the tutorial.

Nah.

Seriously?
>>
If you are running it on a multicore processor, you might need to force deusex.exe to use single core.
>>
Run it in Windows 98se

This is probably it. I also had this problem with KOTOR and Homeworld.
>>

>you might need to force deusex.exe to use single core.

The game that predicted 9/11 couldn't predict multicore CPUs...

I expected better from electronic old men.

integrated graphics card?

did you try to play it windowed instead?

there are several mods that make it more playable on modern cards too
>>
>>3194704
>>3195114
Desu. Run it on a custom built Win98 machine with a 3Dfx Glide Voodoo card. Otherwise, too bad. Deus Ex was optimised for Voodoos.
>>
>>3194519
Don't listen to these cucks OP, open deusex.exe in your favorite hex editor (mines xvi) and jump to address 08EA3. Replace the contents found there with 0088AE. This will disable the frame limiter, which really fucks itself hard on modern cards.

Your welcome.
>>
>>3195387
What problems does it cause at the machine level?
>>
>>3195387
Install WINE on your iPhone and put it into a microwave, on high for 60 seconds, to alter its flux compacitor. That worked for me. Trust me, I'm a normie.
>>
There's Deus Ex: Revision, which fixes the frame limit and also improves the visuals. Just make sure to select the vanilla soundtrack.
>>
>>3194519
You seriously couldn't Google this yourself?

Next you'll be asking us how to get on the boat.
>>
>>3194519
If you don't have the resolve to fix it yourself you could at least have pirated the GoG version, that one runs just fine its already fixed for you m8.
>>
>OP didn't even have the sense to pirate the GoG version
>>
>>3196113
GOG and GMDx, that's all you need.
>>
>Just pirated Deus Ex.
Oh, you BAD.
>>
>>3194519
.. Just use GOG version, anon. Everyone does.
>>
>>3196139
>GMDx
Oh shit, never seen that before. Might be time for a reinstall.
>>

I believe Deus Ex is a masterpiece but to be fair, its from 2000, so tecnically no /vr/

>Retro gaming means consoles, computer games, arcade games (including pinball) and any other forms of video games on platforms launched in 1999 and earlier.
>>
>>3196769
>ieve Deus Ex is a masterpiece but to be fair, its from 2000, so tecnically no /vr/

Yea, for some reason Deus Ex is allowed. Threads and posts on it come and go so it doesn't seem to bother people much, no one here gets that "NOT /vr/ OMFG FUCK OFF" knee-jerk reaction to it, it's just kind of there.
>>
>>3196789
Some games the janitor is lenient on like deus ex.
>>
>>3196792
We've had biased janitors/mods before, this is a holdover from those times when saying DKC sucked got your post deleted.
>>
>>3196805
I really don't remember that from 2013 and 2014. If I recall, the aging badly argument is a recent thing.
>>
>>3196823
>If I recall, the aging badly argument is a recent thing.

Yup, some guy started that thing last year in 2015, ran its course too I think since I haven't seen it in a good while.
>>
>>3194519
>inb4 OP starts asking "how do i get on the boat?"
Man, shit's nostalgic.

>>3196169
Nah, it aged really well. It's much better than Human Revolution, in my opinion, both gameplay- and charm-wise.
Slap on the Nameless Mod/2027/Hotel Carone/Zodiac/Redsun 2020/Ghost in the Machine etc. for maximum replayability and HDTP/NewVision/Kentie's .exe etc. for better graphics.

You don't even need other games at this point.
>>
>>3196929
What's that mod where the dialogue is all in-jokes from a certain forum? I think it's one of those you mentioned, is that even enjoyable to some outsider?
>>
>>3196947
The Nameless Mod, and yes, it's really fucking enjoyable.
It has two completely different storylines depending on which faction you pick in your first mission, a LOT of content and side-missions, cool weapons, and really great endings and locations.
It's also surprisingly worked-through - you can sequence break, there are very few invincible NPCs, and killing the non-invincible ones is ALWAYS accounted for in the story. Hell, the endings even give a brief report on the consequences of your actions in-game a-la Fallout.
It's comical, but it nonetheless really captures the exploration and non-linearity of Deus Ex.
>>
>>3196968
>>3196947
He's probably thinking of the Malkavian mod

>tfw the co-op mod is abandoned

I don't know if it has been revived and being developed again, but few years ago I remember the main modder announcing that he no longer has interest in developing it. Deus Ex is one of the best singleplayer experiences in video gaming history, but it would be interesting to see how it would work out in cooperative. System Shock 2 was pretty alright in co-op, even though I didn't get the legit System Shock 2 experience until I played it alone.
>>
>>3195541
> Revision improves the visuals

Is this a joke post? I don't want to stare at their shitty "new" JC face the entire game.
>>
>>3195209
>Deus Ex was optimised for Voodoos.

What? I thought for this particular game Glide support was thrown in at last minute.

Isn't Direct3D supposed to be the core render pipeline for Deus Ex?
>>
>>3198389
> I thought for this particular game Glide support was thrown in at last minute.

Not likely. It's Unreal Engine 1, so it's pretty much certain to work best in 3DFX - aside from the third part D3D drivers that have since been written for it, that is.
>>
>>3198892
While true, Deus Ex is probably one of the most resource heavy of any other unreal 1 engine game.
>>
is our game retro? release date given of 2000 not 1999 or previous...
>>
>>3198937
These threads never seem to get deleted. The rules say platforms from before 1999, and Deus Ex was released for Windows 98 originally.
>>
>>3198937
get over it, mods and jans are cool with, so is everyone elsehere apparently
