Thanks, yeah I found it, and have since added proper Beretta 96D reloading sounds. I tried out the real firing sounds too, but they sounded too limp and weak compared to the DSPISTOL sound.

Yeah it's got that issue with jump pads and lights as well, I'm considering making a texture pack to size them up a bit since it relied on texture smoothing to get the right look.

It looks like there are addition skins for Hunter in Quake 3 Revolution's piece of shit arcane archive "LINKFILE.LNK", but Hunter isn't a character that you can use in the campaign so I have no idea how to get them.

http://pastebin.com/2EvkcUBR Here's the filenames I see with some spaces added so it's not as bad to check out.

The SSH files are textures and the pattern I picked up on with Doomguy is that the levelled up skins' textures are appended with 00, 01, 02, 03, and 04 for Slave, Freeman, Warrior, Warlord, and Lord of Battle skins / stats.

I really want to see them.

Yeah, honestly it looked a lot like how I played doom back in 1993. Granted, I was a *six year old*, not a teenager, but yeah. That's about what I expect from a first time player with the default controls.

They all thought it was pretty cool and the black kid was aware of how crazy it looked for a 1993 game.

The only thing I'm mad about is that we all gave the pricks who tried to copyright the word 'react' a pile of views.

Views, likes (or dislikes) and comments boost a video's search ranking, and then it becomes more visible to people who might not have adblock (~49% of YT userbase)

I wanna do a Doom 4 inspired weaponset later, mainly cus I like the machinegun that shoots mini rockets and I have some other arcadey bullshit ideas to inject into it.

I also wanna eventually do a mod where you always pistol start and the big gimmick would be killing monsters and they drop parts for to you use, so like an imp claw for fireballs, mancubi flamethrowers, etc.

Are there any games with doom-style gunplay and level design but zelda-esque world design? I think it'd be cool to have a big world and item-based progression in a doom-style shooter, but I'm not familiar with any shooters that are both expansive worlds dotted with dungeons but also have fast-paced, high action gameplay that stuff like doom provides.
>>

They're not particularly hard, but you can find a list of locker and door codes online, so you don't really need to sift through email or audiologs to progress if you don't want to.

If you're stuck, you could just check the last PDA you found for hints or directions, it's simply that easy.

Also you should try using the chainsaw on almost everything, even the cacodemons.

Some questions about Combined Arms

Brick tome replaces invisibility couldn't it replace something more common instead? A lot of wads don't even have this garbage.

Why rocket launcher's secondary doesn't damage the player? I use it as shotgun all the time.

Will there be any updates?

Anyone know why this doesn't work? It teleports in the two demons, then it teleports something like 4-6 former humans, but then stops. (The array formhum contains 48 former humans)

All the teleport destinations in the arena have TID 200, which as far as I know means that it should just choose a random available teleport with that ID, as long as I teleport something to TID 200, right?

>All the teleport destinations in the arena have TID 200, which as far as I know means that it should just choose a random available teleport with that ID, as long as I teleport something to TID 200, right?

That seems like a big assumption.

Try printing i to the console or whatever to see whether your loop is actually looping and iterating correctly.

If it is, give all your teles different tids and them then choose them via random numbers.
>>
>>3186527
reading the source suggests otherwise.

// If tid is non-zero, select a destination from a matching actor at random.
// If tag is also non-zero, the selection is restricted to actors in sectors
// with a matching tag. If tid is zero and tag is non-zero, then the old Doom
// behavior is used instead (return the first teleport dest found in a tagged
// sector).

I think I might've found the problem with the teleporting problem. The array that I store my monster TIDs has empty elements. I don't know why though
http://hastebin.com/dehevifera.avrasm
In the first step, I make an empty integer array of 48 elements. Then, I assign the values 320 to 367 to them in order. In the second step, I shuffle it with Fisher-Yates. No clue why there would be any zeroes remaining.

Weapons that feel strong in Hexen
>Fighter's Fists(Fuck yeah)
>Timon's Axe(Fuck yeah)
>Hammer of Retribution
>Quietus
>Bloodscourge

The rest are pretty lackluster(Firestorm) to complete shit(Sapphire wand)

Pain elementals existing in Doom is not an issue because they aren't THAT common and even though they spawn Lost Souls all the time there is no point where they aren't vulnerable.

Meanwhile Centaurs on pain chance will put their shield up and be almost completely immune to everything for a few seconds.
Making a lot of the weak weapons feel even worse(Especially the Sapphire Wand)

Then it's made worse by the fact that Centaurs are the most common enemy outside of Ettins

i don't think your shuffling algorithm is correct, you're just exchanging each element with a randomly selected one. you're not swapping each element exactly once.

You need to use the right weapons against Centaurs, and it turns out there's a lot of them.

>Fighter
Axe/Hammer/Quietus rip through them like paper.

>Cleric
Odd man out unless you want to use Wraithverge, which clears room of Centaurs. Firestorm is really random I find when it comes to Centaurs, ranging anywhere from 1 to 4 hits to kill. Otherwise your best bet are Flechettes or Discs if you can push them off cliffs.

>Mage
Frost Shards two shorts them in melee range, Arc almost always one shots, and Bloodscourge one shots.
>>
>>3186857

Only if you're using the Axe/Frost Shards and occasionally the Hammer, which often one shots, then they'll pull up their shield for 1sec, after which you process to kill them the next hit.

Voidship
dmvoid.zip (139 KB, 1994-12-08) - Kevin McGrail (HevKev)
https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?id=1117

you have been long-range teleported into a spaceship full of demons to destroy it before it can cross the galactic void and spread chaos throughout the universe! i love the justifications old wads have. this map looks the part, with lots of flashing lights, tech textures, and impressive views of a galactic sky. it probably wowed a lot of people when it was made, if they'd never seen skyboxes before anyway. there is a rather nice floating eye texture used in a few places, and i did like the effect of the ride up a lift under the ship's front wings.

gameplay on the other hand is not great, at least, only for those who enjoy puzzles and clambering around in cramped, dark spaces. the first room has you waiting interminably for slow lifts, four in total for symmetry. then there is this knife-edge thin S-shaped curvy staircase which despite being a feat of map-making of its time is annoying to ascend. we go on through cramped corridors and invisible doors through an especially irksome maze not of walls but of platforms whose height difference is sometimes slightly below and sometimes slightly above 24 units (so the automap is no help). later on there is the observation deck, the aforementioned lift up to the bridge, and a boss showdown. the map then has you return to the start where the exit has lowered.

in summary this strikes me as a map which those with the nostalgia for it would love, and defend to the ends of the earth, but without that, is a bit too much of an awkward puzzle wad to be enjoyable.

Hi, sorry, I'm a newbie to Doom.
I know how to use IWADs, but how do I run PWADs? (in ZDoom)

Like, for instance, a friend gave me pol.wad, and I have the doom2.wad it requires to run, but past that I'm lost.

If you're planning on trying out more doom than just pol.wad, download ZDL and get it configured

If you're just trying out pol.wad, drag it onto zdoom.exe and start playing

There are other ways but those two are the most retard friendly to explain.

Fellas, it's been 14 hours but I have proof.

Hunter has alt costumes in Quake 3 Revolution despite not being a playable character, making them unobtainable.

The foetid, steaming, squelching orgy of shit that I waded through for the better part of a day has led me to this, and all I have to do each time is make a new fucking ISO with a slightly modified main archive redirecting the game to unintended offsets for different textures so that it plasters Hunter's titties on the roof of Q3DM1.

I'd say I want to kill myself, but I'm too drained to even entertain the thought.

why does doom (and apparently other games) stretch the base model after the fact? Perspective?
>>
>>3187803
For Doom I'd always presumed it was so that computers had to render a 300x200 scene instead of 300x240 to gain some performance. However it seems that isn't the case.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mode_X (Doom used Mode Y)

It looks like most common VGA at the time was just 320x200, square pixels were new.
>>
In case anyone else wants to know what took me too long to figure out, a program that'll edit ISOs and other disc images that PCSX2 can still run is UltraISO. MagicISO seems to fuck them up somehow.

the curse of the character limit. i shortened or outright removed a lot of old items while trying to save space to fit in all of NESFag's PC Collector CD links. in that particular case i reasoned the whole item was removable on grounds that promo videos aren't as interesting as actually downloadable playable map/mod releases. of course, none of this helped anything like enough, so i still ended up having to shove all the CD content links into a pastebin.

It's a timed check, which for that webm was at "if mobs> random(15,20). If there were more mobs than that, there'd be a 105 delay. If not, it'd tp in more mobs.

I changed those values now to "if mobs>8" and the delay upped to 500 for a bit more breathing space.

>>3188543
The array that holds the monster TIDs is created and shuffled when you press the button. So if you save before pressing the button, you'll get a new order every time. If you save after pressing the button, you'll keep the same wave. The teleporter destinations are random though, regardless. (there's 32 of them in the arena, and they're selected by Random(600,631). Though technically if you were to be very careful with shooting etc, you could keep that the same each time too.

So you can't draw googly eyes on a Shambler because it has an early 90's UV map which is fucking terrible and the entire sides of its 'head' are two stretched lines of pixels.

Also, the shoulders and top of the neck use the same texture part as the face, so anything you draw above the teeth shows up on the shoulders, too.

What do you think of Soldier of Fortune, and I suppose Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix?

If you look up Soldier of Fortune on Google Images you'll mostly see its gore system in action.

>Soldier of Fortune was best known for its graphic depictions of firearms dismembering the human body. This graphic violence is the game's main stylistic attraction, much like the destructible environments of Red Faction or bullet time of Max Payne. The GHOUL engine enables depiction of extreme graphic violence, in which character models are based on body parts that can each independently sustain damage (gore zones). There are 26 zones in total: a shot to the head with a powerful gun will often make the target's head explode, leaving nothing but the bloody stump of the neck remaining; a close-range shot to the stomach with a shotgun will leave an enemy's bowels in a bloody mess, and a shot to the nether regions will cause the victims to clutch their groin in agony for a few seconds before kneeling over dead. It is possible to shoot off an enemy's limbs (head, arms, legs) leaving nothing left but a bloody torso. In the last mission there is also a fictional microwave weapon, causing the enemies to fry or explode, depending on the firing mode.

I guess this was ground-breaking gibs at the time.

>>
>>3187450
git gud, goldeneye is still hilariously fun
>>
>>3188593
Yeah, that's the split rocket from Dissvolerberation of Eternity. Rocket jumping with it is suicide unless you've got yellow/red armor but you get so much ammo for it even on hard/Nightmare it's perfectly reasonable to use it as your main weapon once you get it (or the MIRVs if you want to have fun with triggered enemies).

Not quite as fun as Armagon's proximity grenades, but splattering everything with the quad rockets is good enough.
>>

>>
>>3188604

>>

>>3188581
I want a shooter with supernatural monsters, fantastical violence and action, abstract levels, health kits and armor pickups, but with relatively realistic and grounded weapons and gunplay, with the exception of a couple of more exceptional weapons, also you can carry most things, or you have an inventory where everything is, and you place whatever weapons you're currently using in a quick-select wheel or tab where you can have 4 to 6 weapons or whatever.

a pleasant but simple marble maze, vaguely a castle (not quite so strongly realised as others such as xcalib11). the titular objects are encountered frequently and often cast a warm light around them. there's no tremendously obvious progression, one simply wanders around until the keys are encountered. oddly the first locked doors are not marked as needing keys, there are for some reason two yellows, and i don't think the red one is needed at all. challenge is low, with few monsters, walls spaced wide apart, and plentiful ammunition. rockets in particular are numerous, with only one enemy on the map robust enough to entice their use. a good map for those who prefer their Doom slower-paced.

Judging by these images of Hunter's alts that I managed to get to appear in the game, it looks like she's supposed to have some sort of warping texture for her clothes. So I'm having a weird issue with Wrath of Cronos. Whenever I step onto a liquid floor, My movement speed shoots up to something that I can only call "completely fucking irresponsible".

Is there any way to fix this? I'm getting tired of being plaid-colored.

Have you played Clive Barker's Undying?
It's a very good horror-shooter on Unreal engine, and turns into a cosmic horror in the latter third, when hero starts to realise that there are much darker powers at play than just a noble family turned to the occult.

There's a lot of cool moments like when the maid gets killed and you rush into the scene, you get that eerie atmosphere, but you don't know what it is, until you notice that the blood began dripping upwards to the ceiling. Then you come to the door, and it just breaks out and drifts away, revealing a gateway to an eldritch dimension.
>>
>>3189765
I think I was going to buy it years ago at GameStop but the guy that worked there said I shouldn't.
>>
>>3189773
That guy was a retard.
Undying is a very good game and one of the very few that actually managed to spook me (played it with 5.1 sound at night)
>>
>>3189782
Undying suffers from the same problem most horror FPS games do - it's only tense in the first few maps then devs decided ''ah fuck it'' and pretty much forgot about the spooks. For example that dimension with cavemen was retarded it felt like something I could see in Turok if the whole game took place in the manor it would be better.
>>
>>3189789
Cavemen are final portion of the game and it's like 2 levels out of about 30.
But yeah, it goes down after the final visit to Oneiros.

>>
>>3190057
Have a coherent plan. Maybe decide on how the player should flow through the map, imagine some big swooshing arrows directing around and map around that.

Stylize a photo, like a photography photo not some snapshit, of a building or street with Doombuilder. Maybe that'll lead somewhere.

You won't get it spot on due to limitations, but at least now you'll have a goal that you can see and maybe that'll be helpful and different.

By default Quake 3 will filter its textures with Bilinear and from the menu you can set it to Trilinear, but I have filtering set to Linear / Nearest which is effectively no filtering. That was the joke I was going for, playing off of your comment about the "software renderer" look being worse than you remember, and what you remember is filters.

Just blasted out this quick, cluttered level based on pic one and two. I converted water into slime and plants into dead trees. Made in the Eureka editor, so the limitations are extreme compared to Doombuilder. It's short, and if done right can be finished within seconds. The red border with hanging dead bodies is only there because I had no other ideas for borders, I think it looks neat. It has deathmatch support, and is probably best suited to deathmatch, though the DM spawns are all over the place. Tested in GZDoom and made in the Boom format. There are 15 monsters in medium and hard, and 13 in easy. Has a custom midi.
