In lieu of the other thread, what are some of the best box arts you've seen for video games? Pic related in my opinion. I'll dump a few to get it rolling.

I'll post one more after this.

Always thought the guardian legends JPN box art was incredible, cool thread
>>3184207
I'm really fond of all of the Guardian Legends boxes honestly. Japanese feels somber and Cyberpunk as fuck, where the American cover feels like it's right off the cover of a 1950's science fiction novel.
Masterpiece

another roger dean game cover, never played it though
it just looks so fucking massive
>>3184569
I'm a big fan of Roger Dean's work.
I only recently noticed the frog.
>>3184569
That's not Roger Dean, that's John Harris of Ender's Game cover art fame.

Painted by our greatest living artist, Mr. Roger Dean.
>>3184792
if only game boxes were big enough to convey that whole image. My only issue with the game box art is that it's scaled down, and even though it's gorgeous, the whole piece is something else.

OMGOMOGMOGMOMGOG Someone else in the world who knows Braatacas! That game was amazing, ahead of its time, inscrutable, indecipherable.
I beat it as a kid, before strategy guides, before the Internet. Toughest game I ever beat.
bümp
Psygnosis: If only most our games were half as good as the cover art back in that era...
Love the art for the secret of monkey island, I'm sure most would disagree but I preffer it greatly to the more cartoony art found in later games.
>>3183886
This really may be my favorite piece of art for a videogame ever made, simply beautiful.
>>3187839
Looks like Robbie the Robots steroid taking older brother.
>>3187873
Steve Purcell's work on the first two games is superior to everything that came after, especially the "enhanced" remakes.
Anyone have a good copy of the darius+ for amiga one?
>>3188051
Same as the ST version, right?
>>3188163
Cool nautilus helmets.
Why don't modern games use drawn/painted covers any more? Its all boring photoshop garbage from high school design students.
>>3188190
They have to be "safe" or their game may not sell.
Always liked EQ and other classic MMORPG covers.
>>3188214
I think games that used toys for their box art sold just fine.
>>3188227
Theyre the best.

Especially when they're horrifying
Best Mario artstyle ever.

An over reliance on photoshop and marketing playing it safe to the point of everything looking like everything else on the front cover because "that sells", that of course being insane because of course "that sells" if everything looks like everything else.

I'm so stoked for the upcoming Iron Fossil figma, what a great birthday present to be had!

Many of the ships in Homeworld were inspired by Peter Elson's art - he's referenced in fact (Captain Elson)
>>3191246
the orange and blue neonness of most covers is dull

My nigga. Not OP, but it pleases me to see that someone else on /vr/ enjoyed this game. First game I ever played, first game I ever beat, and still one of my favorites to this day. The controls were garbage, but that's kind of part of the charm. I still fire it up on an ST emulator from time to time!
>>3191252
Godfrey Ho's Jungle Book
>>3198483
I'd rather pay to see that than the Favreau remake.
>>3187826
That's the cover of an album, a damn good one.

I know. My dream is to one day put Cultösaurus Erectus on and play a round of Ork on an actual Amiga
>>3184610
Took me a while to spot it.

creepy!
>>3188698
Wow, you get this cool ass artwork and then some knob comes and slaps a silly title like that on it. I can do it too: Commander Gooberfritzel Versus the Zorlikon-Blaster-Masters.
>>3188669
dat Metallica lettering

>Commander Gooberfritzel Versus the Zorlikon-Blaster-Masters
I would play that.
Populous the beginning, japanese version
