No

Why don't we ever talk about them?
Because I'm not good at them
>>
I'm terrible at them but love them dearly. I'm a huge fan of tetris and love the newer interations with the hold button. I just started getting into puyo puyo recently. My first experience was Kirbys Avalanche but I didn't play it much. Recently I got puyopuyo 2 on game gear and Puyopuyo Tetris on vita. Awesome game!

You wouldn't think it at first glance, but this is the best launch title a system has ever had.
Great alone, online or at parties.

Does anyone else know the shame of getting his anus handed back to him by a middle-aged Chinese lady at both Panel de Pon and Puzzle Bobble or is it just me?

For anyone with a Chinese mother, you know she beat your bum at these games, don't lie. No matter how good you could ever get at Panel de Pon or Puzzle Bobble, unless you're a Chinese woman who has had a child, you will never master them the way every video game playing Chinese mom does.
>>
>>3179772
Can this still be played online with unofficial servers or something similar? Failing that, is there a way to play it online on a modern system?
>>
>>3179790
I don't think so, only game that has such dedication still is PSO, but Chu Chu Rocket is honestly the most fun with four controllers, three mates to man them with and copious amount of pizza/snacks and alcohol.
If you don't have the mates, the Dreamcast or the controllers, it's worth the hassle to work towards getting those.
>>

Both my girlfriend and her mother crush me in Panel de Pon without even putting in effort. I've been thinking about sitting down and documenting as many patterns and advanced moves that I can think of in this game. Many require 60 fps timing to pull off, but good players find the patterns that allow them to continue on to the next link in the chain without waiting. Honestly though, the best advice I have is play the shit out of Vs. until you consistently kill Very Hard CPU in 15 seconds. Ultimately there is no teaching someone the patterns, save for a few, only discovering them yourself, because you have to burn them into reflexive memory.

There is no way you could possibly get the fidelity and speed you need to kick ass at TA with a touch screen. It hurts my soul to just think about it.
>>
>>3195513
>>3196734
I think it's hard to learn if "playing more" is the only way to get better, but if that's the only way then so be it.

>>3197091
I saw some people praising the touch controls for that DS Puzzle League game.

>>3196557
I didn't know Bonk was in that game.
>>
>>3197091
my motivation for the question is this: looking at the webm I see two distinct actions happening over and over. One is moving the cursor to the new desired location and the other is performing a swap operation at that location. Thing is, the first action "does nothing" as far as the game state is concerned. It merely exists to translate the intention of a player to manipulate a set of stones. The player looks at the screen, decides where they want to operate next, but then need to spend precious moments to bring the cursor there. The other action though, that's the actual game action, that's where the game state is altered and progress is made. That's what the player meant to do right when the decision was formed, before going through the "preparations".

Now, with touch controls, one could eliminate the entire first action. The moment a player decided where to perform the next action, they perform the next action right there. Of course the swap action would have to be crafted carefully. For example, you can't just swipe, that's too slow. Should be sufficient to just tap, either both tiles, or sufficiently close between two tiles to avoid miss-tapping. Also, I'm talking about a reasonably large screen, not something you need to operate with a stick.
And of course there's still the issue of a public touch screen, gets kind of icky quickly.

Anyway, not saying touch is best in general, just that this particular "move selector" and "perform action" gameplay would, in my mind, profit from it massively, and I was hence wondering if that's the case or just wishful thinking.
>>
>>3196743

the latest panel de pon came out on ds and it uses the touch screen. it's bland and slow.
>>
>>3197837
as I suggested in my response, the DS is a bad example. You're stuck with a stick (that's indirection), and a very small screen. At that point aiming becomes a serious problem, that slows you down quite badly. I'm thinking more along the lines of a 10 to 20" panel angled in front of you, that you can tap on with both hands as you see fit. Any bigger and arm speed becomes an issue, any smaller and you need to aim too much, which costs time.
>>
>>3192931
The easier modes on the DS version slow the block movement down a lot, giving you more time to set up chains. Plus it has a hint feature that helps you develop an intuition for spotting chains/combos. Just don't waste your time with the touch controls.
>>
>>3197850
>as I suggested in my response, the DS is a bad example

1. Get familiar with regular patterns: Stairs, Sandwich, and all of their types. Also L-shape. (max chain 5-)
2. Learn to mix these patterns together. (max chain 7+)
3. Learn a transition. Maybe vertical, GTR or a variant. (max chain 10+)
4. Learn how to build on the second floor. (average chain 7+)
5. Work on consistency. (average chain 10+)
6. Learn how to tail.
7. Learn more patterns and more transitions.
8. Work on speed.
9. Learn how to harass.
10. Learn how to counter harassment.
11. Learn to play while watching your opponent's screen.
12. Refine everything, get lots of experience, learn all the details of the system.
13. ???

That should be a good start.

>Didn't you want to get good?
No, I'm a different anon. I never played the game, and might have considered picking it up, but if it takes all that upfront work just to play that game, I'll pass. Have fun with it.

And current Sega is even further from being a tenth as good as original Sega.
>>
>>3206428
when did Sega stop being original Sega? What was the transition timeframe? What events marked it?
>>
>>3206438
I'm not the person you were replying to, but if I had to muse a bit on it, I think the biggest turning point was when they left the console market, though the shift in the nature of arcades in both the United States and Japan also plays a pretty significant role in the history of Sega and their games.
>>
>>3206438
I'd say around gen 7 is when Sega really died. You could say it was when Sammy bought them out in 2001, but they still had a few games left over that they finished up later on like Jet Set Radio Future and Panzer Dragoon Orta and Super Monkey Ball and OutRun 2 that were really good games. Of course, Sega's prime was the '90s, and I doubt they'll ever regain the magic they had during that time.

When I was very little and lived with my grandmother, I found an old Master System in the attic. I don't remember why she had it, but the only games on it were some racing game, a a duck hunt knockoff, and columns. Columns was my favorite of the three and it stuck with me ever since.

Apparently, VS isn't 1:1 with the original Tsu rules, even though 99.9% of people can't notice it. I surely can't. But those that do will be able to play the original if they want to.
And it's just another venue for people to play the games, which is always good.

It's more like Puzzle Bobble + Breakout if you ask me. And yes, it's nice. I'd recommend the Playstation version.

Probably because most people don't even know about that, or more likely because Hernan is dead. I figure the differences aren't big enough to demand reviving him.
I wish the source code was open.
